I hope you guys are right and I'm just playing devils advocate here, but she got 16,000 votes in a district that regularly turns out 160-220k in the actual election. 2 years ago Joe Crowley got 147k in the final. I just have some doubts that the demographics or the ideology of the electorate changed that quickly.

It does work in white countries where people want to work and only use welfare as a safety net (right now I'm voluntarily unemployed in Australia, and I don't even rely on the welfare system, although technically I think I'm entitled to some stuff).
Historically, the first welfare institutions were actually private and voluntary, and started by trade unions for their members.

The reason it's all collapsing in Europe is because they have brought in africans who don't understand the system and simply "abuse" it (legally) because they think free stuff falls from the sky.

Being a meme party candidate is pretty irrelevant when you have been the district rep for 2 decades. He's on the ballot, which is what actually matters. If he actually tries to win, he will have a very good chance. The demographics have shifted in her favor, but she won the primary largely because he completely disregarded her as a threat. It all comes down to what the DNC wants. Venezuela mainly collapsed not solely because of the oil price decline, but because prior to the oil price decline Venezeula borrowed heavily from foreign companies and countries in foreign currency AND pegged its own currency to the dollar in hopes of then being able to pay back the loans with increasingly higher oil profits. This was a terrible idea and a sign of extreme mismanagement by the governing elite. Since Bolivar (and Bolivar even acknowledged this) Venezuela has long had a huge problem, the fact that the majority of their country is non-white and the lack of a white majority that will at least attempt to hold the elite's feet to the fire is why the country has chronically failed. The Pardos and Mestizos are simply too inefficient and too ignorant of politics to fix anything or maintain the system.

Bolivar always worried about a pardocracia that is "rule by non-whites" and his fears were well founded.

In order for that to work, Aussie, you have to AT LEAST have civic nationalism. Everyone has to contribute to the country. "Ask not what your country can do for you. Well, state sales tax is 6%, the county can charge up to 2.5% in addition to that. I'm currently paying 3.65% in property taxes. Texas isn't cheap if you live near any city with jobs.
