The fuel is extremely toxic. Hydrazine does some nasty shit.
Dominic Mitchell
refueling suits, x37 houses god rods. There's a fleet of maybe 40 in orbit at any one time.

military can kill people so easily. any country has budget to pull off weapons that can vaporize people. the logical conclusion is that every government is a farse, because if the most powerful have access to these money and weapons and they are bent on controlling the population, obviously it must already be so, because they have all the means to do it. our lives are a farse, a controlled environment where we are squeezed of our efforts to survive.

>hydrazine
Just by looking at its chemical structure, it's just begging to oxidize any way it can.
Hudson Murphy
Jet fuel like that is literally some of the worst chemicals on the face of the earth.
Look up "Chlorine Trifluroide" some time. It's probably one of the angriest substances ever. Though I'm not sure if it's what this jet would use, if not it would be something else nasty.
James Sanchez
>The human-rated AR2-3 engine had been used on the dual-power NF-104A astronaut training vehicle and was given a new flight certification for use on the X-37 with hydrogen peroxide/JP-8 propellants. This was reportedly changed to a hypergolic nitrogen-tetroxide/hydrazine propulsion system.
Nathaniel Cooper
They used JP8 for space flight??
You normally want something that can stay hot and burn at really high altitudes or space, but JP8 has it's own hazards. Nitrogen tetroxide is a hardcore oxidizer but I can't be fucked looking into this further at the moment and a good wiki scour would answer things anyway.
Fun reading on CIF3
>"it is of course extremely toxic but that's the least of the problem. It is hypergolic with every known fuel, and so rapidly hypergolic that no ignition delay has ever been measured. It is also hypergolic with such things as cloth, wood, and test engineers, not to mention asbestos, sand, and water—with which it reacts explosively. It can be kept in some of the ordinary structural metals—steel, copper, aluminum, etc.—because of the formation of a thin film of insoluble metal fluoride which protects the bulk of the metal, just as the invisible coat of oxide on aluminum keeps it from burning up in the atmosphere. If, however, this coat is melted or scrubbed off, and has no chance to reform, the operator is confronted with the problem of coping with a metal-fluorine fire. For dealing with this situation, I have always recommended a good pair of running shoes."
