Crimea is like USA claiming independence of Kosovo from Serbia. It's 8X-9Y% ethnically different. You can't acknowledge one from if you acknowledge other (watcher of Fall of Milosevic documentary). Note counting that Kruschtev gave Crimea to Ukraine SSR in the context of that territory still being in the same sovereign country - Soviet Union. Since due to apparent change of Russian sphere of influence to Western one, downgrading of ethnic Russians but Ukrainian nationalists rights and possible future adherence of Ukraine into a military alliance anti-Russia, they did that in geostrategic and future military plans. The Soviets and newly Russian politics should have put some Treaty with USA to limit NATO expansion eastwards and not some shitty words/ informal stuff.
