Chinatown is NOT the place to go for Chinese food. It's a place to explore for 1/2 hour and get out. Some of the best Asian food I've had was actually in mountain view and Santa Clara.

In San Fran, go to the tea garden and the cable car museum. Hard to recommend d anything else except to have fun on the steep ass streets.

I can help you because I live in California. I live in Newport Beach CA. It is nice place about 50km south of LA. Newport Beach is safe, Laguana Beach, Huntington Beach...they are all great and in Orange County.
