it has nothing to do with number of births, it's just that Croats and Serbs are leaving the country because they don't feel any sort of overarching loyalty. Not that Bosniaks don't go abroad to work, but majority of them return back home after a while, while Bosnian Serbs or Croats move to Serbia or Croatia. It's why RS is losing over 10.000 a year and Catholic Church records show Catholic (Croat) population is also shrinking at a rapid rate.

when bosnia changed hands from the ottoman empire to the austro-hungarian one, a large part of muslims immigrated back to turkey which somewhat reset the expansion. the share of the muslim population has nevertheless always been on the rise since then, even with ww2 and the genocide in the 90s.

it's the other way around. serbs from bosnia migrated to serbia and montenegro in the 19th century because those two became independent from the ottoman empire.
there's little consensus on the whole thing. the serbs claim bosnia was serbian land since its inception. the croats claim serbs became dominant in the region only in the 16th century and the bosnian nobility was actually croat. the whole thing gets more complicated due to the existence of the church of bosnia, a church considered by both vatican and the byzantines as a heretical church. the issue of religion is the crucial one since that's really the only thing separating bosniaks, croats and serbs.

most of them claim they speak serbian and not montenegrin, are a part of serb orthodox church (not montenegrin) but still 45% of them identify as montenegrins as opposed to the 30% who identify as serb. in all actuality, they are serbs in everything but name. they beat serbia proper to independence by a couple of decades in the 19th century so they were their own thing for a while, but later on were together with serbs in every conflict, the serbo-turkish wars, the balkan wars, world wars and the yugoslav wars. the split only happened in 2004 with their independence on a referendum that barely passed.
