Furries are fairly a-political really, so what -are- they doing? I've talked to many, because oddballs fascinate me, and i think i have an idea.
They are people who are rebelling against the suffering task of carrying human consciousness. While some, yes, are just playing dress-up or drawing things they think are cool, the most hard-core furries i've talked to tick a certain few boxes every time.
They are sick of over-consciousness of humanity. What makes me come to this conclusion? Jungian Philosophy - animalism and animals represent the unconscious. These people wish to fall back into the simplicity and emotion-based freedom of the animal state; humans are animals too of course, but no furry LARP's as a human, because we humans are cursed with the burden of a consciousness manifest from our animal nature - a hyper complex network of decisions and considerations grown out from that animal soil, and for some - they need relief from it.
This, ultimately, is what i think furries are - they are escapists of the highest degree; hiding not just from mere adulthood as many leftists are, but from the curse of consciousness.
At its most toxic, this is a form of deep infantalization, but at its most positive - it is shamanistic; mankind attempting to get back in touch with its foundational nature.
