Nova Scotia gets more from Canada monetarily than it puts in.
That said, Canada is moving in a direction that is completely at odds with what most Nova Scitions value...tradition, history, local community. I personally would support Nova Scotian independence -- but we all know that isn't happening. People there are very much tied to Canada.
I think the people there don't fully understand the ideology of the Canadian Government -- their extreme attachment to global mass immigration - and the effect it will have on them. Most immigrants have no desire to go to Nova Scotia, because it isn't a large urban area with economic opportunity like Ontario/BC... But I can assure you the government is actively trying to dump as many there as possible. In some regards, it's a focus, because they don't want the area to remain while and attached to it's European history... it can become a source of friction when other areas are becoming 'post-national'
You do encounter people from larger cities who relocate to the Maritimes to get away from the multi-cult -- they usually don't say this explicitly, but implicitly they are looking to get away from the 'New Canada'
The reality.. and Nova Scotions don't like to admit it - is the economy is poor there and there aren't a lot of natural resources, beyond fishery/forestry/tourism. ..there is very little mining and relatively small amounts of prime farmland -- the coast is too rocky, the inland area is terrific but small.
There would almost certainly need to be a centralization of people and services into Halifax and area along with perhaps 4 or 5 other regional centres - it is simply too expensive to maintain services for all these tiny towns and rural routes without the Transfer Payments
Anyway, this won't ever happen unless the country breaks elsewhere first. Quebec is pretty much solved now IMO.. there are enough Liberal immigrants, that sovereignty won't win a vote.
Perhaps the West will be sour enough to split but I doubt it

Not true.
We just have the wrong government initiative. Nova Scotia was the first colony to receive responsible government. Canada just tagged along, appropriated everything Nova Scotia had given; hell, the idea of confederation was ours, but Canada became the namesake of the country, and the Capitol wasn't put in Halifax (the most optimal place), but in Ottawa.

I have been looking into relocating my family to Southern NS. I want to homestead and homschool and the land there is extremely cheap. The biggest barrier is lack of full time employment, even at minimum wage. We could move out there then get laid off a year later and be totally screwed. It's so remote the shipping cost really puts a squeeze on business ideas.

It is possible now days. If you can do this NS is good. But even in Nova Scotia, the desirable towns and locations aren't always cheap. You can go way out in the boodnies and get stuff almost free, but there is a reason nobody wants to live there... it's isolated and far from services and other people.
Nice towns are not so much cheaper than Ontario... perhaps not the GTA, but smaller towns outside of it.

Peoples livelihoods are being damaged and erased; the city is full of homeless beggars. The Canadian government just puts regulations on us and expect us to cooperate.
Fuck, I'm in the fisheries, a lobster fisherman; some guy from Vancouver was appointed head of the department of fisheries. Someone who knows NOTHING of the importance of the jobs, or the first hand experience and understanding, is going to control the industries with little scientific evaluation as possible.
My brother digs for clams in the clam flats behind my dads house. The clam flats were shut down because of a paralytic toxin in clams in the local area. There have literally been NO cases of poisoning from the clams; the only cases were some obscure restaurant somewhere else selling old shellfish to foreigners, and they got sick. That's the ONLY reported case.
So, they don't have any reported cases, and shut it down, and promise a study to tell us when it's safe to get clams. They haven't done the study, and it's been years. They shut it down for nothing.. Fresh clams off the market, because of the Canadian government.
