Maybe some Gen-X'ers/oldfags can provide context - why did the entertainment industry decide to sabotage MC Hammer's career/turn him into a joke/etc.? I was watching some of his old videos because I thought they'd be hilarious 30 years later, but I was surprised by how positive and upbeat they were. His themes were things like working out, being healthy, trying your best in life, being confident and emotionally-strong, etc. It was corny, but it seemed like a much better message than the (((gangster rap))) which replaced it. Was MC Hammer turned into a national joke because he refused to spread degeneracy in his music?
