My theory on generations is that there are two types that alternate per generation. I'll call them artists and workers.

I think its a natural human cycle which explains why people throughout history have essentially blamed younger generations for being degenerate, weak and worthless: because half of them are.

I think this is natural cycle we've developed that's happened for at least a couple thousand years. Only when a generation reaches retirement age does a new, parallel generation step in fill their place. When mass retirement happens, it's normal to need similar people to enter the workforce at that time.

Gen X and GI's (and Gen Z soon) in particular are critical of millennials and Boomers because these are the workers. These are the ones going into trades, apprenticeships, and getting their hands dirty. The "artist" generations by contrast will go to university to study psychology, art, business, and so on...

The only point in traditionalism to take care of kids is because too many die off and you need a labor force. After 3 kids, with several years in between, it'll be a challenge to not neglect them in some ways. You only really need 2-3. The financial crisis in 2007-2008 is the reason why Millennials swung so hard left in the first place. When what is perceived as the Free Market has failures and recessions/depressions, it creates panic and people look for other alternatives, generally socialist in nature. Look what happened after the great depression? Sweeping socialist reforms, creation of social security, a lot of government funded public works projects to get people working. The New Deal was a push from Free Market economy to a Keynesian mixed economy, a "Third Position" not too unlike Fascism and Nazism.

Now another crisis hits and people who were just getting out of college and finding the job market completely thrashed and having to take minimum wage service jobs.. while they have $10's of thousands to hundreds of thousands of student loan debt.

Why do you think there's a push for "free" tuition, and $15 an hour minimum wage? Because Millennials got thrust into "Your whole life is fucked"-ville and see socialist reforms as prefferable. Almost nobody stumps for socialism when the economy is good and good paying jobs are readily available. They get financially secure, then they just want low taxes.

It's also not an Artist/Worker separation, but more or less a critic/cynic and activist separation., though being cynical/critical about things (usually the world the generation before them created) generally does lead to art, music, or say, comedy.(social criticism).. or in other words, thinkers vs doers.

Starting with the GI Generation, they were the activists, they went to war, and that war was a statement to many, about the free world vs nazisim, fascism, and communism.
