It's a vicious circle. They want to keep wages low, so the requirements to teach are very low. This attracts lazy, low-achieving people who don't deserve to be paid much and with little respect. Part of it is the 3 months off per year as well, it's considered a slacker's job. Sad situation but there it is. I had some great teachers but I can say with confidence most of them I wouldn't let operate my lawn tractor.
