If I had to guess it's because a larger portion of English speakers have access to the internet and spend more time on it. In the U.S. our entire way of life is dependent on the internet. Idk if it's like that in all Chinese or Hindi speaking areas of the world.

You can go almost anywhere in the world and hear people speaking English in addition to their native tongue.

This. Even look at Jow Forums, all kinds of nationalities (Dutch, German, Belgian, Russian, French, Polish, Indian, Turkish etc.) all communicate with each other in English even if no Anglos are present in the discussion. English is a great language for world peace and understanding.

Also this. The Great Firewall and Communist censorship, on top of most Chinese speakers being poor and uneducated as shit (they can't even type Chinese or speak Mandarin properly, nevermind foreign languages) takes out the Chinese factor, it even applies to Japanese and Koreans who have their own isolated internets, Take out those speakers, and English is the dominant language globally, not just as official language for most countries, but as 2nd languages and general lingua franca. Google Translate and spellcheckers also make it alot easier for people who don't speak English well to communicate clearly on the internet in English. Also, in the 2nd major language region, Latin America, half of South America is Portugese speaking Brazil who will communicate in English with other Latin Americans, and most South American countries are poor as shit anyway (Bolivia, Guatemala, Nicaragua), so they don't really use the internet apart from facebook on their phones or internet cafes.

Because english is a very large second language, because the last two super powers have used it. When you get a multi-century long dominance by a single language politically it filters down to the masses.

Because western scientists use english as defacto for communication. Only Russians and Chinese have their own groups.
