Here's story:
Latvia was a prosperous country in the 1930s and under authoritarian right-wing regime. Then the Soviets invaded and killed off many Baltic goyim, stole properties, personal items, killed army generals and tried to eliminate anyone with IQ over 110. Jews (mostly) and russians were in favour of the new order. Criminals both ordinary and political were released and promoted as policemen or party functionaries. The country was destroyed, in chaos and its economy crashed.

Then came germans. They rid the Baltics of soviets and reinstated order. They were seen as liberators after just 1 year of Soviets. Of course, they promised to renew Latvia after the war (which was lies), many prisoners of communist regime were released. Later in war germans created latvian SS legions (which were basically wehrmacht, but put on an ''SS'' label for ''legal'' reasons). Some were forced to join, some joined out of hate for russians and Soviet system, which had ruined their lives. They were decent soldiers and some of the best legions in german army. So these are the people who are commemorated in march 16th - they fought Soviet invasion. Russians, germans (nowadays) and jews always get their panties in a twist and whine like some SJWs every time our legionnaires are remembered.
