other life definitely exists outside of our solar system, it's a question of whether it's INTELLIGENT life.
Think of all the bizarre circumstances that had to happen for humans to become the dominant lifeform on Earth:
1) Earth collides with another massive planetary object during its formation, allowing the Earth to have a massive amount of internal heat, liquid outer core, molten inner core with spin giving rise to our magnetic field that protects and shields our planet, giving rise to the Earth's axis tilt giving seasonal variation that most other planets don't have, giving rise to the planets spin and day / night cycle. Maybe these types of events are exceedingly rare in terms of planetary formation and Earth is very special.
2) The billions of years of evolution of life on Earth, from the pre-cambrian when the great oxygenation event occurred from cyanobacteria emitting O2 as a waste product and it building up in the atmosphere, forcing anoxic life to evolve / adapt to O2, creating rise to using O2 for metabolism.
3) Evolution in the cambrian explosion, leading to massive diversity of life and the rise of nearly all major animal phyla that exist today.
4) adaptation to life on the surface rather than in the oceans, the rise of angiosperms and other plant organisms which form the basis for all terrestrial life.
5) Mass extinction events that drastically changed the dominant lifeforms on Earth, rise and fall of the dominant species and adaptation of more minor species like mammals that would later evolve into hominids.
All of these special conditions and more led to humans becomming the dominant species on Earth, a massive amount of luck was needed. To think that these type of events happen on any planet that evolves life is pretty ridiculous, most life in the universe is likely very simple organisms, with complex multicellular life being very rare.
