The Right says - grow up, that's Santa thinking. There should be care for the sick and the elderly - the lazy and stupid, not so much. Your taxes should pay for services, not the layer of politicians between you and those services.
It admits adult concepts into the world, like personal responsibility, taking your turn, paying your share, and accepting you can't always have everything you want.
Obviously 'Everyone can have everything they want for free' is a lot more attractive, but it's clearly nonsense.

Why is the modern right wing more attractive to many than the modern left? To try and condense the differentiation: the left offers victim-hood while the right offers self-empowerment. Most other facets of the modern interpretations of these ideologies stem from these roots.
What attracted me initially to the right was the idea that my future was in my own hands, and while I could sit all day and cry afoul of the evils plaguing the world, I could also look around my immediate surroundings and work as hard as I'm capable to fix a little at a time.
This also explains how the left and right view social problem solving on a large scale. The left extols the virtues of federalized democracy - where solutions are voted upon by people 1000 miles away who lead entirely different lives with different customs and beliefs - centralizing power and decision making and implementing solutions from the top down. People on the right typically see this as tyrannical, and want solutions locally decided upon. This was the original sentiment of the constitution, that constrained the federal government and left a lot of power with the states. Even states may be too much centralization of power, but this argument shifts into the authoritarian, libertarian spectrum and I want to keep this as one-dimensional as possible, else we'll be here forever. ;D
As for your argument against capitalism, it naturally suits the right, as we believe man should do with the fruits of his labor as he sees fit. Capitalism is the only solution that maximizes this outcome without resorting to complete anarchy. Just enough government to help protect your capital but not too much where it can seize capital entirely. Again, this delves into the libertarian/authoritarian spectrum, but the rightist sentiment of self-determination more closely fits the template capitalism provides.
Further examination of the ideologies requires more time and care, and I just ran out of both.
