>'Who will heat us during winter?' Turkey rejects US plan to torpedo Iran’s oil exports

Turkey is happy to receive oil from Iran and won’t be joining US efforts to block Iranian crude exports, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, refusing to cut economic ties with "strategic partner" Tehran.

>“Iran is both our neighbor and our strategic partner,” and severing ties with Tehran on America’s whim goes against Turkey’s “understanding of sovereignty,” Erdogan said on Wednesday.

>Still ‘world policeman’: US expands overseas military presence with 300k troops in 177 states

Trump is sticking to the policies of past administrations despite campaign claims that the US shouldn’t be ‘world policeman’, experts told RT regarding Pentagon figures of 300,000 US troops in 177 states.
“Today more than 300,000 Americans are deployed or forward stationed in 177 countries,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford said on Monday. These missions include those in Iraq and Syria, activities on the Korean Peninsula, and “enhancing interoperability with allies” in Poland, according to the man acting as principal military adviser to the US president.

The number announced by Dunford is much higher than the one given by Pew Research Center in 2017. The Washington-based fact tank reported that 200,000 US troops were stationed overseas at that time, adding that the largest US military presence was in Japan, Germany, South Korea, Italy, and Afghanistan.

youtu.be/KzDm9UvKTAk

“We are looking at a continuation of policies even from past administrations,” Jennifer Breedon, an attorney specializing in foreign policy, international law, and religious terrorism, told RT.

US taxpayers now can’t tolerate a huge military budget, according to Breedon.“We have issues at home… in the US,” and taxpayers don’t want to put millions of dollars “into groups like NATO,” she said.

>US President Donald Trump repeatedly said the US should stop being the world policeman during his election campaign and reiterated it afterwards. In April, he repeated that during the visit of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to the White house.

In his pre-election days, Trump considered himself a vocal critic of American military adventurism. In 2013, he took to Twitter to say that “All former Bush administration officials should have zero standing on Syria. Iraq was a waste of blood and treasure.”

>Iran won’t take part in ‘one-sided talks with US under threat’ – Foreign Ministry
Tehran will never take part in one-sided negotiations with the US under threat, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Wednesday. The comments appeared to be a reaction to US President Donald Trump’s statement on Tuesday that he is ready to “make a real deal” with Iran, Reuters said. “America should forget forever the idea of one-sided negotiations under the shadow of a threat,” Qassemi was quoted by Tasnim news agency as saying. Iran has also filed an official letter of objection to the Swiss embassy in Tehran, which oversees US diplomatic relations in the Islamic Republic, IRNA said, citing Qassemi. The letter reportedly concerned a speech made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday in which he compared Iran’s leaders to a “mafia.”

>Turkish MPs pass security law to replace emergency rule
Turkey’s parliament on Wednesday passed a security law giving authorities broad counter-terrorism powers following the lifting of the two-year state of emergency. It was imposed after a July 2016 failed military coup. The new regulations apply for three years. They grant broader authority to local governors, including the ability to ban public gatherings. The measures also extend detention periods and allow public servants’ dismissals if there are links to or contacts with terrorist organizations or other perceived threats to national security, Reuters reported. Opposition members say the new legislation effectively extends the state of emergency for another three years.

>Bosnian minister wants army deployments at border to curb entry of migrants
Bosnia’s security minister said on Wednesday he would seek legislative changes to enable border deployments of the army to help stop migrants entering the country en route to the EU. Hundreds of thousands of migrants who streamed northwards through the Balkans to EU territory in 2015 largely bypassed the ex-Yugoslav republic. However, Bosnia now finds itself struggling to accommodate about 5,000 people intent on making their way via neighboring Croatia to EU countries further north, Reuters said. More than 9,000 people from Asia and North Africa have entered Bosnia from Serbia and Montenegro since the beginning of 2018, including 3,000 over the past month. A similar number have managed to cross into EU member Croatia.

>Iran’s Rouhani: ‘No need to respond to Trump’s empty threats’
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has said there’s no need to respond to US President Donald Trump’s “empty threats.” Rouhani’s remarks Wednesday were his first since Trump warned the Iranian leader of dire consequences for threatening the US, AP reported. Iran’s president told his Cabinet that there are “baseless comments and empty threats by some US leaders.” Rouhani said that “there is no need for us to respond to any nonsensical comment and answer back to them.” He added: “We should respond to them with action.”

>Erdogan will ‘discuss ways to protect Syrians’ in Idlib, Deraa with Putin
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday he will discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin “ways to protect Syrians from potential attack” in the northern province of Idlib, Reuters reported. Idlib is the largest remaining Syrian rebel-held enclave. Turkey has set up a dozen military observation posts in Deraa and Idlib. Erdogan was speaking to reporters in Ankara before heading for a summit of emerging market countries in South Africa. “We will be discussing Deraa [with Russia], which is one of the most problematic issues of all. There is also the issue of Idlib,” Erdogan said, citing “brutal attacks of some organizations in the region.” Forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad have captured most of the southern province of Deraa in an offensive that began in June.

>Houthis target Saudi warship off western Yemen coast – report
The armed Houthi movement targeted a Saudi Arabian warship off the western coast of Yemen, the group’s Al Masirah TV said on Wednesday. “The naval force targets the Saudi Dammam ship,” the broadcaster wrote on its Twitter feed. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, Reuters said. The Saudi-led coalition that is battling the Houthis in Yemen’s civil war has not commented on the report. The Houthis, who control Yemen’s capital Sanaa, have also fired dozens of missiles into Saudi Arabia in recent months. However, most of the missiles have been intercepted by the Saudi military.

>U.S. calls on Russia to end Crimea occupation: Pompeo

The United States refuses to recognize Russia’s claim of sovereignty over Ukraine’s Crimea and called on Moscow to end its occupation of the peninsula, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday.

>“The United States rejects Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea and pledges to maintain this policy until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored,” Pompeo said in a statement. “The United States calls on Russia to respect the principles to which it has long claimed to adhere and to end its occupation of Crimea.”

>U.S. Treasury sanctions people linked to Syria chemical weapons

The U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Wednesday against five groups and eight individuals linked to Syria’s chemical weapons program, the department said in a statement.

The targeted groups and people were key to a network that procured electronics for the Syrian agency that develops the weapons, it said.

“Syria’s horrific use of chemical weapons, including attacks against innocent women and children, remains deeply embedded in our minds,” said Sigal Mandelker, Treasury undersecretary for terrorism.

“Today, we are continuing our campaign to stop the Assad regime’s ruthless attacks by targeting the procurement networks that have supported its chemical weapons program,” she said.

The Treasury said it coordinated its action with France, which earlier this week renewed an asset freeze on 24 entities and individuals for providing an array of support to the Syrian agency.

Among the companies Treasury designated is Electronics Katrangi Trading (EKT), an electronics supplier based in Lebanon with operations in Syria, Egypt, China and France.

Amir Katrangi, Maher Katrangi, Houssam Katrangi, Mohamad Katrangi, Mireille Chahine, are individuals linked to EKT who were among the people cited in the sanctions statement.

>Xi urges fellow BRICS countries to reject go-it-alone trade

Chinese President Xi Jinping said there would be no winner in a global trade war, urging fellow developing powers on Wednesday to reject unilateralism in the wake of tariff threats by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump’s warnings have given Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa fresh impetus to enhance trade cooperation, and their leaders found a collective voice championing global trade as they began a three-day BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

The meeting of presidents from the trade bloc is the first since Trump’s administration launched a push to rebalance trade multilateralism that Trump has deemed unfair — relationships that the United States once championed.

“We should be resolute in rejecting unilateralism,” Xi said at the opening ceremony.

“A global trade war should be rejected because there will be no winner,” said Xi, who oversees the world’s second-largest economy, and whose nation is dominant in the BRICS bloc.

>Wary of U.S. ally, Syrian Kurds look to Damascus for talks

Syria’s Kurds are trying to forge ties with Damascus as they seek to protect gains made in seven years of war, wary of its unpredictable U.S. ally and more ready than ever to negotiate with President Bashar al-Assad.

The main Kurdish groups have emerged among the few winners of the conflict in Syria, carving out autonomous rule over large parts of the north under the control of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia.

They have mostly avoided conflict with Assad, at times even fighting common foes — including rebels his forces are gradually crushing with help from Russia and Iran.

Talks between the Syrian Kurds and Damascus have now begun on a return of state employees and repairs to one of Syria’s most important pieces of infrastructure: the Tabqa dam, the country’s largest, which the SDF took from Islamic State last year with U.S. air power.

A top Kurdish official has also signaled the fighters could join any future offensive against rebels holding Idlib province bordering Turkey, and cooperate more widely against Turkey, which has sent forces into an arc of Syria’s northwest.

>A decision to stop calling their police force by its Kurdish name, “Asayish”, is another step that appears aimed at overhauling the region’s image with an eye to its future.

>Syria’s Kurds, which the Baathist state systematically persecuted for years, say they do not seek independence, but they hope a political deal will safeguard their autonomy.

For the first time, Assad said in May he was “opening doors” for talks with the SDF, while also threatening force. A deal between them could settle the conflict in most of Syria.

But there is no sign of Damascus coming to the table yet, and analysts say Assad is in no rush as he has fast recovered ground and his position is growing stronger.

>U.S. military says investigating Afghanistan air strike

The U.S. military is investigating an air strike near the northern city of Kunduz last week following reports that as many as 14 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the attack, a statement said on Wednesday.

Last week, Afghan officials confirmed the deaths, which occurred during an operation on July 19 by Afghan security forces backed by U.S. air strikes, but said the causes were unclear.

A separate U.S. statement last week confirmed that U.S. aircraft had carried out strikes in support of the operation but said there were no indications they had caused any civilian casualties.

On Wednesday, the U.S. military issued a second statement saying that the incident was being investigated.

“While an on-the-ground assessment conducted by Afghan forces immediately following the strikes revealed no indications the strikes caused civilian casualties, we are investigating the incident and subsequent claims further,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Martin O’Donnell, spokesman for U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.

“U.S. Forces-Afghanistan takes all allegations of civilian casualties seriously and is working closely with the Afghan government and Afghan National Defense and Security Forces to determine the facts surrounding this incident,” the statement said.

Death toll of the surprise ISIS raids now tops 240 including 61 soldiers and allied militias from the SSNP.
At least 900 were wounded nearly 170 of that are in "critical condition" and may die.
At least 70 people were abducted by the retreating ISIS elements

No SVBIEDS were used. All conventional infiltrators and suicide bombers. One suicide bomber was arrested at the Suweida hospital which was packed with people at the time. Casualties would have been even higher.

Hey can one of you please redpill me? I'm an orthodox christian, I made a thread just now. I've been lurking on /sg/ for a bit and need some answers. I'd like to 'support' this cause, but how do you guys justify being allies of Middle Eastern christians in syria, lebanon, iraq, etc. when Hezbollah and Assad have persecuted christians in the recent past?
In the lebanese civil war, Hafez Al-Assad slaughtered christians and occupied Lebanon for over 20 years. In that same war, Hezbollah fought against the maronite rulers and again, killed plenty of christians. I'm open to an explanation though. I want to support my christian brothers in the Middle East and its clear that the Saudis don't seem to care for them. So how exactly are Assad and Iran friends of ME Christians now, when they were not earlier? Or do I have a misunderstanding of the past? Thanks bois.

Please explain what's wrong with lebanese maronites. The vast majority of lebanese diaspora are catholic, whether roman or maronite. I know they allied with Israel during the civil war but they clearly don't support them anymore. Please can some of you explain this jew-maronite thing in a way I'll understand? thanks

I'll agree to that, can you see my other post about if you can answer it? ty

Actually in those examples you mentioned, both Hafez and Hezbollah were allied to some christian groups, while hostile to others

the several groups and denominations of christians in Lebanon are not in the same camp geopolitically

Nobody cares burger

>Assad have persecuted christians in the recent past?
Nigger, what are to talking about?

>The Russian military has sent thousands of new troops and weapons to its western border, where the U.S. and fellow NATO Western military alliance partners have attempted to beef up their defenses.

>Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the "developing situation" in the region designated the Western Military District has led to the establishment of "more than 70 large units and military formations, including two divisions and three brigades" since 2016. He also revealed that "about 5,000 new and modernized weapons and equipment" were delivered to Russian troops there

Okay, I'll agree that not every christian was on the same page during that war. What christians were Assad and co. allied with then, the Greek Orthodox? And Russianon, Hafez was fighting against the maronites during the lebanese civil war. I'm trying to grasp the Assad perspective

Hafez is dead. I know, shocking. Bashar didn't do anything against christians, so your question is puzzled on me. If anything, Bashar defend his country from US invasion and US hate christians like nobody on Earth, so if you really is orthodox then you must support Bashar as he is last hope of christians in ME.

I didn't say bashar is the same person as hafez, but it's still a decent question to ask considering lebanon and syria's turbulent past. I agree US policy is a disgrace to foreign christians, so I'll take your word. Especially because I can't trust western media or the jihadi rats calling themselves 'rebels' any longer.

is the Houthi Navy the most powerful Navy in the world?

>it's still a decent question to ask considering lebanon and syria's turbulent past
I agree, it is

Im not versed enough on Lebanese history to comment more, hopefully a Lebanese poster will show up or something, theres a couple of them that post occasionally

>if you really is orthodox
He's American. It's meme """Orthodoxy""", basically a Papist who's uncomfortable with being that because of his protestant upbringing. I see woe upon your church because American Orthodox are going to push for gay rights and various faggotries into Orthodoxy. I'm so so sorry

Abdurrahman Shishani aka Tamaz Batirashvili - elder brother of Abu Omar ash Shishani (aka Tarkhan Batirashvili, former Minister of Defense of ISIS) was beheaded in Idlib yesterday.

>it's still a decent question to ask considering lebanon and syria's turbulent past
I still puzzled, yes Hafez is Bashar father but as saying going sons shouldn't take responsibility of their fathers and Bashar himself didn't do anything bad to Lebanon or christians in general. Be assured as long as Bashar is ruling over Syria christians will be safe and since we are involved for at least next 50 years, christians are safe no matter who will rule over Syria.

The Russian Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs are joining efforts to help Syrian refugees return home. Military diplomats have come up with a step-by-step plan. It was discussed today during a meeting of the Coordination Center of the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs.

You've convinced me. I'll give Bashar a shot, specifically because US policy has caused the exodus of christians in Iraq and Syria, and I can't support this nonsense any more.
