done charity work in Romania a few weeks back, thought it was a nice enough country, good local food and hospitality
I would suggest you go to these 3 places. Southern Albania, Greece(Northwest, west or an island) or Budva/Kotor in Montenegro and Croatia.
Southern Albania is really fucking good, took me completely by surprise. For you it may be a bit better since 90% of the people there had pretty good Italian. Greece is good as well, maybe better however the problem is you need to find the good parts. I would suggest you go to Santorini, or find some exclusive islands, which aren't that expensive.
Montenegro is pretty good, been there twice. You can have a lot of fun in Budva, maybe even rent a boat, the nightlife is a blast etc.
Croatia is really good, however I worked extensively there and never got to the chance to take a proper vacation since I wanted to turn back here to meet my family/friends. But I think you won't be disappointed.

Albania in general since it has been promoted by many italian friends who went there already and 2nd generation diaspora, I'm going to stay most
Before that, I'm going to stay in Pag (croatia) for 5 days and tour around maybe 2 days, then stop 2 days in montenegro, then albania for maybe another week. After that, we'll see (as I'm going with a group of friends) to visit Sofia and Belgrade, then going home back in Italy
Greece I know well, three years in a row that I kept going on vacation there and wanted to change once in a while, still thanks for the recommendation
I usually take my vacations either on Capri or Verona. I really like Italy, been all over it.
Serbs like Macedonians and to an extent people in parts of Bosnia. Croats despise Serbs and to an extent people in parts of Bosnia, people in Slovenia are pretty chill with Serbs and the rest but im not sure about Croats. Some Serbs dislike people in Romania and Bulgaria cause of the wars before the Great War and the war it self, but most people dont care that much. Greeks and Serbs are bros. Its very complicated, and the "these guys like/dont like these other guys" is very subjective and to varying degrees. Just when you are in Croatia dont mention Serbs at all, and in Serbia avoid saying Croatia, and you should be good for the most part.
Romanians are bros as well.
All you need to know is that EVERY balkan shithole is our rightful clay.
