I'm reading technological slavery now. (Industrial society and its future + some other works) It's really interesting how insightful he is. it's the whole isolated genius meme. yeah, he's smart as hell---but its easily arguable that true intelligence comes from being able to work WITH people. he wouldn't even have to change his ideas or politics, just change the way he sought to get them noticed. he chose to remove himself and complain about society rather than dive into it. so maybe youre right about him being a Jow Forums sort of archetype, but i dont think that makes him the smartest man in the world

It goes over so much you really should just read it but i think the fact the first bit is about the psychology of modern leftism from a non-leftist anarchist's (kind off) perspective, should tell you how good it is.
He goes over the issues with utopian fantasies, depression and degradation in modern society, the collapse of self fulfillment etc and relates all these back to technological/artificial dependence on both a physical and mental level.

The people who rise to positions of power in leftist movements tend to be leftists of the most power- hungry type, because power-hungry people are those who strive hardest to get into positions of power. Once the power-hungry types have captured control of the movement, there are many leftists of a gentler breed who inwardly disapprove of many of the actions of the leaders, but cannot bring themselves to oppose them. They NEED their faith in the movement, and because they cannot give up this faith they go along with the leaders. True, SOME leftists do have the guts to oppose the totalitarian tendencies that emerge, but they generally lose, because the power-hungry types are better organized, are more ruthless and Machiavellian and have taken care to build themselves a strong power base.

Nothing you said was inaccurate. Those same ideas could apply to all movements. I'm saying isolated attacks are not as effective as communicating the message which high Machs are very good at. Sure there will be disagreements and those in power will try to maintain the status quo, but the movement will create bigger change than Ted in the shed.
