First off, Obama wasn't even particularly *to the left* what with big business bailouts, continuation of wars & military spending, no support for unions, etc. Granted he had a Republican Congress against him but I think he was trying harder to appease the establishment than to use the huge public approval rating he enjoyed and leverage it into something better than Mitt's brainchild ACA.

I'm not against scrapping *bad deals* or demanding stuff from foes and allies alike. But you have to start conflicts with clear idea what the hell you're trying to do.
If you're gonna start trade wars then tackle the biggest issue and tackle it directly. fuck over China and make them more dependable. Don't slap on a bit of tariffs against China, then against EU, Canada, Mexico then go back on it, then threaten some more, then brag about x, or get mad over y only to backtrack that too. You know how when you take antibiotics you need to take the whole fucking box lest the bug gets resistant against the antibiotic if you stop taking them the moment you start feeling better. Same applies here, these little concessions he's getting from all around the world are others biding their time and hammering out deals with each other bypassing the US completely. Abandoning TPP, NAFTA and Iran deal had the same effect. It makes us look uncredible and shows others they can run shit without us, thus lowering our diplomatic and political influence which in turn can start fucking you over domestically.
5.) none of his policies are gonna help USA dominate 21st century. It's all highly reactionary and he lacks the vision (or guts) to make an unpopular but ultimately, in the long run, correct decision. He's a relic of the past in that sense.

Mexico and Canada are already reorganizing their exports to lessen the risk of US becoming more protectionist.
We're getting phased out and once new supply chains get set up, you'll end up in a weaker position than where you were at the beginning. And especially if you're unifying the whole globe against you making it easier for EU and Chine to come to terms (just like the UK leaving the EU made it easier for EU to hammer out a trade deal with Japan). Not to mention that gutting the TPP left all the China's neighbors at their mercy instead of letting us use them to gang up on Chinks.
