I'll try to give you an honest answer based on my own experience.
Each individual's working ethic aside, many people tend to be lazy, and will do as much to abstain from working as they feel they can get away with.
It is a mistake for example to think that either Americans or Mexicans are more or less lazy, they are both human, the difference is the immigrant knows he has to earn money to send back home, the immigrant knows his "employer" can refuse to pay him or even call immigration authorities if he pisses him off with stupid shit like having a bad attitude or being lazy, and most of the time immigrant workers get more jobs, aka more money to send home, by doing a good job for a little money and having his employer recommend him to other of his friends.
Therefore you might tend to have better experience with immigrant workers.
The reason I think this is a better explanation than "locals are lazy immigrants are hard working" is because I also see prime examples of exactly the opposite.
Take a place like California, no way you are going to get deported over a shitty job. Take an immigrant whose family is already in the states, no way he can accept a too shitty pay and give them a decent life. Add in welfare and what you have is a completely shitty worker, as lazy or even more lazy than any local.

3 year apprenticeship, or go and do an expensive course and get qualified in a few weeks. That being said nobody will hire you without experience. Best bet is try an apprenticeship, if you go thr course route though, be prepared to work for shite wages for a year or more until you get you NVQ portfolio completed
