The Democrats as the enemy of God and man is trying to cast off any identity it has in a frenzy of self preservation that will only ensure it's total annihilation.
It has first smeared the American right as Fascist and National Socialist with the intent to paint their moderates as radical figures and disguise the republican parties policies as the works of totalitarian demagogues in the eyes of their own base. However, this was not enough. They had to cast off their own baggage and sought to do the best thing reasonably possible. Apply it to their enemy. And thus they smeared the party of Lincoln as the promoters of the Ku Klux Klan, the same Klan that was founded by the post civil war democratic party. But that was still not enough, oh no, they still had to find something to blame for their failures. What better target than the most acceptable and most likely of targets? What better way to hide your own involvement with a group than to "testify" against it? And so they claimed that the Republicans were Russian backed, distancing themselves from the Slavs who had previously funneled money to them.
