Let me take you on a journey, Jow Forums. A journey back in time. The year is somewhere in the early 900s. A mass exodus of Norwegians fleeing the brutal rule of Harald Hårfagre occurs - he was known for seizing whatever properties he wanted, and generally ruled with an iron fist. He had to be like this to be able to unite Norway in 872 AD. The diaspora settled on an island some distance away, in the middle of the sea. Together with a couple of monks from Ireland and other settlers from the british isles these Norwegians formed what is today known as Iceland.
Fast forward to the year 1258. Iceland became a part of "Norgesveldet", the extended Kingdom of Norway, through (regrettable) use of violence and fierce negotiations between Icelandic representatives and the Norwegian king Håkon IV Håkonsson. In return for being a part of Norway, Håkonsson pledged a certain number of ships that would sail to Iceland every year, guaranteed. These would contain trade goods, people and other vital things. Then, the black death hit. Around the middle of the 14th century, Norway and Iceland were absolutely decimated by the infamous plague - Iceland had as little as 20 000 human beings left after the disaster, and Norway had been emptied of 95%+ of its royals, nobles and educated men. Both of us were hollow shells of what we once were only a few decades prior.
The rest of history we all know. The rise of the Danes as the top dog, the Swedes breaking out of the union, and Iceland transferring from the Norwegian crown to the Danish one.
Fast forward many centuries. The year is 1930 - Norway goes to trial in Hague against Denmark based on territorial claims of Greenland and other previous Norwegian overseas territories and loses. These legal proceedings, however, ignited a fire in the Norwegian people. We were on a mission to reclaim the part of ourselves that was lost over half a millenia ago. So when the financial crisis in 2008 hit, and Iceland was especially impacted -
- an Icelandic party known as "Fylkisflokkurinn" - the "county" party - arose, with the sole aim of becoming part of Norway, once more, as our 20th fylke. This would have immediately saved iceland economically, due to Norway's overwhelming wealth. This party didn't get anywhere, but it's a symbol. It's a sign. Icelanders - you are our kin. We are one people, separated by a millenia of history and politics. IF you should wish it - you are MORE than welcome to return home once more.

Read my post. There's your rundown. If you want a TLDR; - Norway's first king, Harold Fairhair, ruled with an iron fist (to put it mildly). This caused an exodus from Norway to Iceland. - Norway and Iceland would establish intimate relations in the centuries to come, ending in us becoming one country in 1258. - All of this was shattered for the next 500 years. - In 2008, the icelandic "county party" arose, wanting to become part of Norway. It never gained any weight. - Icelanders are free to return home if they please. - I'm LARPing but in a good way.

Danes are more relaxed and way less politically correct than you although their language is literal potato and their country is exclusively flat.
I dont think they are way less politically correct than us, just alot more comfortable expressing it in public. They probably still are a less pc than us but not by that much.
