Every country in the world has a balance of socialism and capitalism, unless I'm missing one out that has no forms of welfare or social assistance of any kind. Rich elites control the government, that is because Government and a nation now days runs like a business instead of a tribe or like a family. Back then when nations were under monarchy they were ruled by families and ran like families.

Really though the principles of socialism are good and would benefit the average person much more than other policies. Socialist parties used to be massively against migration as well due to corps just wanting cheap labour since they didn't want to pay their workers more. I actually have less and less problem with socialism. The problem is we have to make sure everyone has some skin in the game and feels a responsibility towards his fellow citizen to both help him out and not be a burden. This is harder in large diverse countries, especially ones where huge swaths of the population feel others owe them.
