The answer to this question lies in the attempted process of "whitening" which the country has been through in the past - the result was the genetic nightmare which the country is known for today. Brazil is not only extremely diverse, but also the groups within it are mixed to such an extent that for the most part, all citizens seem equally foreign to each other. There is no sense of "belonging" to this "nation", no comradery whatsoever - the perfect environment for an oligarchy or (((plutocracy))) to take root.
