A combination of reasons:

1. A lack of oil and other raw materials in Germany, thus necessitating trade or invasion with other countries. National Socialism would work best in a nation that could achieve autarky.
2. Strategic errors on the battlefield (ie Hitler diverting troops out of Russia to bail out Italy) and poor military leadership in general (Hitler)
3. Poor alliances (Japan had their own agenda which was at odds with Germany, and Italy was a useless client state once all was said and done)
4. A system which inherently was full of infighting by design. Hitler gave different deputies overlapping duties so as to foster competition between his subordinates and thus shore up his own position of power.

The list could go on and on, but those are some of the main ones.
