Actually, I had a similar experience recently. As an experiment, I posted Antifa getting BTFO by flashbangs in a lefty chat, and all of a sudden everyone began lamenting the militarization of the police and firing upon citizens.
In their mind, it happened for "no reason".
Then I jumped in and carefully explained that Antifa came to start violence and got served violence in return. They could not believe it, and said "Violence against fascists is okay though". "Nazis need to die", etc.
Then I replied, "Which faciststs? Which Nazis?"
I could not convince them of anything. Exited the chat because realized I was doing the pearls before swine thing.
