I think its always been there, though really I'd say traditional Scottish conservatism isnt represented by any of the parties, as there will be plenty of conservatives in the SNP who didnt go full commie until about 5 years ago and they still picked up 30% of the votes minimum. Remember it wasnt that far back they were known as the 'tartan tories', historically Scottish people have always cared more about money, which as lead to innovation, ingenuity and risk taking in the sciences and business.
The routes of it are the same as they are in every small population with an oversupply of land and resources, is by nature more meritocratic and libertarian, as there wasnt the ability to enforce the class hierarchy and segregation we see in England as people could just up sticks and fuck off somewhere else if authoritarianism was imposed.

The example I always point to is in each countries attitude to higher education. In Scotland it feels totally natural for people to get behind offering free study based on merit and hard work, whereas in England it feels foreign but treating study as a business investment people SHOULD go into debt for feels right.
On a personal level I see it in the workplace, me and the other scottish guy dont even blink when making reasonable questions of authority in meetings or from instructions handed down, whereas the English workers who are by no means pussies normally turn into fucking mice at the thought of getting in the way of hierarchy.

Scottish Conservatism as it exists today in the party is a fucking mess, as the constitutional question has sliced everyone down the middle, leaving people in a position they dont really have people to back.
