I’ve experience that too. The strange thing is the lowest of the teaching roles, teaching assistants, are often the most arrogant. It’s a role they get often without qualifications or the minimal effort it takes to become qualified to teach. They’re in the classroom too and often form cliques with other teaching assistants.

This. The ones I know who became them were always in the lower half of intelligence. I'm not talking about RNs either, there are 'lower' types of nurses that I can't think of the names of off the top of my head. And with that said, there's a lot of smart nurses out there, provided you're in a hospital in an affluent area. I'm by a rich suburb of Chicago, and they're all hotties 25-35.

Being a nurse is actually one professional field that most women excel at precisely because it's suited to their natural disposition of maternal care taker and their bedside manner contributes to the healing process of patients. If you think that's stupid, then by all means go to a hospital where there are no females and see how well all those faggots treat you. I'm also willing to bet if you don't understand that then you probably have sub-par education to even a nurse, so you calling someone else stupid is laughable.

This is true in my experience. I can't tell you how many times my SIL has pretended to be a doctor and give a diagnosis on shit - including mental illnesses which she has zero education on at all. The last idiotic thing I heard her say was "Tell your grandma about your poison ivy! Tell her how you're not supposed to touch the virus!". I find it fascinating that she thinks poison ivy is a virus (it's an oil that irritates the skin). Then again.. before she called it poison ivy, she was telling people it was chicken pox. I don't know what she's claiming it is now but it hasn't gone away (2 months now) and it's not contagious.

My SIL is an LPN.. so higher levels of retardation, from what I understand. I love it when she tries to correct me on my line of work (she likes to pretend that she knows more about why her internet went out than a CCNE)

That's a huge straw man argument. The OP has made an observation. One which I also have experience with. It sounds like you might be a nurse of some sort.. so let me regale you with some of the shit my SIL has done and let you decide for yourself:

- She diagnosed a red rash as chicken pox. No pox.. just a red rash. She later said it was poison ivy, which I have an allergy to but was unaffected by it (this did not sway her diagnosis at all).
- She claims poison ivy is a virus.
- She diagnosed my chest pains as "allergies" even though I've never had allergies. When I mentioned this she says "well you can develop an allergy in 5 minutes". After going to a real doctor, it was determined that I had over-stressed a muscle and he put me on some pain killers.
- She flat out told her surgeon that she would not lose weight so she could undergo a procedure to relieve her hernia.. and still pushed the surgeon to conduct the procedure (for which he eventually relented).
- She has told me numerous times that nurses are more important than doctors.
- She has diagnosed my nephew as being schizophrenic. He's 5 years old.. which is too young for such a diagnosis. An actual psych has diagnosed him as being ADHD. (Note: this isn't her kid.. it's my sister's kid, whom I am the parental guardian of -- and my niece mentioned in the poison ivy story)
- She has convinced my 40 year old brother that he shouldn't be doing lawn work because he's at a higher risk of heat stroke due solely to his age (he has no other medical ailments which would hinder it).

Working in low-level healthcare puts you in constant contact with the absolute worst excuses for human beings on the planet every day you're there. It wears on you after a while. Any real compassion you might have had when you first started the job dries up quick after an 80-year-old woman walks into your ER and tries to scam you into getting her another Oxy script after she's already gotten four others from different hospitals and clinics that day.

As for being dumb: The less you know about something, the more confident you are in telling other people what is and isn't right. Hence nurses, techs, and to lesser extent EMTs pretending to be doctors when shit like diagnosis and prescribing medications are all done by someone who is both paid more and has a higher level of education than them. You'll note that PA's and NP's tend to be less forthcoming when it comes to people asking them for direct medical advice than individuals who are lower on the totem pole than them.

I work in Acute Care They're not retarded, per se. They're usually burned out, overwhelmed, and desperate for a man in their life. Cannot say how many times our RNs and HPCs have sought me out for attention/affection/validation. And I'm not a doctor - I'm a CPC; I'm just there to code all day. And I don't give them what they want as I'm married with kids; don't want complications.

My mom's an NP for the ER of a middlingly-major hospital in NC and she makes a little over 100k gross. Also has a second part-time job at a Psychiatrist's office and teaches for a community college once or twice a year.

The only way for an RN to make that kind of money is to live in a bloated state like NY or Cali where $250k is at best middle class or by working for (and probably sleeping with) some super-specialist MD who makes crazy fuck-you money himself.

Pretty generalized statement. Worked in hospitals (9 floors)and alongside all levels of staff. I interacted with virtually all of them at one time or another over my yrs.
I would say less than 30% of RNs have bedside manners that would qualify taking care of my friends and family. And i bet it is worse today because more people become RNs for the money, not the helping people, saving lives. Also many do it to marry Docs.
