A major turning point why me and my wife (who is actually belgian) left Belgium was the treatment of doctors. Belgians (more flemish, but both in the end) are really fucking rational and doctors never seem to become doctors because its a calling, to help people or even to feel more moral or something. They become doctors because its a good career with solid pay. They dont treat patients like people, they treat them like work. For fucks sake, they have to take “empathy training”. As in they get trained to act human - how does that not sound wrong?

Wife’s father had a heart condition. Anyone could have told you he did. Since, however, it was something hard to detect and could not be written on a piece of paper (i.e. be completed as a task) they told him he was faking and sent him iff. When he had a crisis (of course he did) they scolded him for not taking better care or something and then got mad when he wanted pills.

I had a minor issue for which they prescribed an invasive procedure. Turns out there was literally no reason to do such a procedure at all. Now I have an issue for the rest of my life because the doctor took the clearest route to checking off a task.

My wife had some depressive issues in the past and they badly escalated. They told her she was being a big baby, should just handle it and offered at most anti-depressants. Came to Bulgaria, went to a doctor on a whim, he said its a serious issue, talked about it and we solved it immediately.

So first of all this doesnt surprise me in the least and second of all they will likely start murdering kids left and right for nothing.
