Romania has strong connection to the Slavs. Most of western Romance peoples also have some arabic admixture (South Italy, parts of France, Iberia). And what even are Romance peoples? Connected to ancient romans, Latins? For instance Slavs and Germanic peoples have more defined historical lines. Slavs are the most simmilar to each other from the 3. And Germans, Danes, Sweded, Norwegians are almost as close as the Slavs. Should the Romance people be redifined into a diffrent groups? It can only be understood as: (1) a matter of language, and (2) a matter of Romanitas, to a degree.
For instance, historically much of Iberia, especially the west of the Peninsula, spoke various Celtic languages and were closely related to other Celtic peoples along the Atlantic facade (Armoricans, Belerians, Hibernians, etc.) in their religion, in their language, in their material and immaterial culture, in their commerce, so on and so forth.
The only thing which ended this was Roman intervention. The change was brought about not through population replacement but through acculturation and the absorption of Iberia into the cultural and administrative sphere of Rome. That's it.
