In the abstract socialism is the overturning of hierarchies. When a large segment of people feels like societal hierarchies have become corrupted or that they don't serve them in general the support for socialism will grow. In this sense you'll always have a 'socialist' demographic. You're ugly? Let's abolish beauty standards. You're stupid or lazy? Let's tear down the meritocracy. All of these different groups assemble under the socialist umbrella.
A lot more could be written about the specifics of the rise of socialism in our culture but usually the people on this board are not very interested in understanding reality.

This mother fucker gets it. Socialism is taking root because unregulated capitalism has caused massive income inequality. All the wealth growth of the country is going towards the top 1%, and it is not trickling down. It is being placed in off shore bank accounts and used for stock buybacks actively taking money out of circulation for average Americans and making everyone poorer besides the wealthy. The USA is fucked, it has to start reigning in excessive capitalism or else the country will collapse. Businesses do not have the best interests of their employees in mind. All they care about is profit no matter the cost.
