>Nusra raids rival rebel group in Idlib, arrests scores

Al-Nusra jihadi group in Idlib have arrested several FSA-affiliated fighters in a wide-scale crackdown against newly-arrived factions.

Scores of Ahmad al-Abdo Brigade rebel group, including a field commander called Abu Malik, was detained by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in an unexpected move by the jihadi organization.

Ahmad al-Abdo Brigade is rebel group affiliated with the Free Syrian Army which was active in East Qalamoun region before being evacuated to Idlib as per a surrender deal with the Syrian government.

The surprise crackdown was sparked by rumors that the FSA-linked faction will engage in a reconciliation agreement with the Syrian Army before the prospected Idlib offensive kicks off.

HTS has launched several raids against groups and individuals who promote reconciliations; arresting dozens of fighters as well as dignitaries.

>SAUDI ARABIA EXPELS CANADIAN AMBASSADOR, SUSPENDS FLIGHTS TO AND FROM TORONTO, FREEZES NEW TRADE AND INVESTMENT TRANSACTIONS

On August 5, Saudi Arabia expelled Canada’s ambassador and announced a decision to freeze new new trade and investment transactions with Toronto.

“We consider the Canadian ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia persona non grata and order him to leave within the next 24 hours,” Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said on Twitter.

The Saudi ministry added that Riyadh is also recalling its ambassador to Canada.

The move came two days after Canada had publicly criticized the arrest of women’s rights and human rights activists in Saudi Arabia. Global Affairs Canada said in a tweet on August 3:
>“Canada is gravely concerned about additional arrests of civil society and women’s rights activists in Saudi Arabia, including Samar Badawi. We urge the Saudi authorities to immediately release them and all other peaceful human rights activists.”

The Saudi Foreign Ministry described the Canadian position as “an overt and blatant interference in the internal affairs” of the kingdom.

On August 6, Saudi state airline Saudia said it is suspending flights to and from Toronto.

Samar Badawi is a Saudi Arabian-American human rights activist. Badawi, along with Nassima al-Sadah, were arrested by Saudi authorities on July 30 in the framework of the ongoing crackdown on activists, clerics and journalists criticizing the Saudi regime and the human rights situation in the kingdom.

Since May, more than a dozen women’s rights activists have been targeted. Most of them campaigned for the right to drive and an end to Saudi Arabia’s male guardianship system, which requires women to obtain the consent of a male relative for important decisions.

>'Face to face with IS captors'

Spanish photojournalist Ricardo Vilanova was held captive by Islamic State militants in Syria for eight months before he was freed in 2014.

He says that his tormentors were a group of four British jihadists, dubbed "The Beatles" by their captives.

Now he has returned to the country and met two of the men accused of holding him hostage.

>US transferring some ISIS detainees from Syria to their home countries

The US military has been transferring dozens of captured ISIS foreign fighters from Syria to their countries of origin, according to multiple US defense officials -- however, hundreds of foreign fighters remain in detention in Syria.

US military aircraft are helping to return the captured fighters to their countries, according to two US defense officials.
The US-led military coalition that's fighting ISIS has repeatedly declined to comment on the repatriation of foreign fighters.
"There's nothing more that I could tell you about any efforts to repatriate them. That's an issue for national governments," the deputy commander of Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, UK Maj. Gen. Felix Gedney, told reporters last week.
"What I can tell you, though, is that the Syrian Democratic Forces have done a remarkable job in capturing and continuing to detain these individuals that remain a threat globally, and specifically to our countries," Gedney said.

CONT

>Macedonian fighters
While many of the countries that have received detainees have chosen to keep quiet about the repatriations, the Pentagon confirmed on Tuesday that the Republic of Macedonia had taken custody of a group of foreign fighters.
"Today's transfer of Foreign Terrorist Fighters to their country of origin, Macedonia, marks a significant milestone in the much-needed cooperative effort to combat the global threat of terrorism," Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon told CNN.
"The Department of Defense commends Macedonia for repatriating its citizens who have been detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces following their capture while fighting for ISIS," he added.
The repatriation of captured foreign fighters to their countries had been an ongoing concern among Pentagon officials as ISIS has lost territory in Syria and Iraq.
"We're gathering up hundreds now of detainees," Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis told reporters in February, following meetings in Europe with his counterparts on the detainee issue. "The important thing is that the countries of origin keep responsibility for them."
"It's an international problem -- it needs to be addressed and we're all engaged on doing that," Mattis added.
The US recently repatriated two American citizens from Syria, where they had been held by the Syrian Democratic Forces. Those two individuals are now being prosecuted by the Department of Justice.

Another individual, a dual US-Saudi national who was captured on the battlefield in Syria and is accused of having been a member of ISIS, remains in detention in Iraq. His fate has been the subject of a months-long legal battle between the US government and the American Civil Liberties Union.

CONT

Many countries have expressed unwillingness to take back foreign fighters amid fears that there might not be enough evidence to try them for their association with terrorism.
There are also concerns that former ISIS operatives could bring some of the tactics they learned on the battlefield back to their countries of origin.
"The government of France said that they don't want these people back," French Brig. Gen. Frederic Parisot, the director of civil-military operations for the coalition, told reporters last month.
The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces currently hold hundreds foreign terrorist fighters.
An increase in detainees
Pentagon spokesman Navy Cmdr. Sean Robertson told CNN that "as of July 2018, there are nearly 600 foreign terrorist fighters from more than 40 countries in SDF custody."
Robertson added that the US military was also aware of more than 400 Syrian nationals who were being detained by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
The apparent increase in detainees -- the Pentagon had previously put the number at more than 400 -- reflects recent gains the Syrian Democratic Forces have made against ISIS in its last holdouts in the Middle Euphrates River Valley.
A US military official with the coalition fighting ISIS told CNN that of the foreign terrorist fighters in detention, about 40 are from Russia, about a dozen are from Germany and a similar number are from France.

>Israel sees Syrian army growing beyond pre-civil war size
Israel’s defence minister said on Tuesday that Syria was building up its ground forces beyond their pre-civil war size, an assessment that suggests President Bashar al-Assad’s army has recovered from a critical manpower shortage earlier in the war.

“Across the way we see the Syrian military, which is not satisfied with just taking over all of Syrian territory but is expressly building a broad-based, new ground army that will return to its previous proportions and beyond,” Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman told reporters during a tour of the Golan Heights.

It's not actual Macedonians but the Albos living there. It's the same when US department reports on ISIS Albanians from Serbia's southern province. They always say they're from Serbia but in any other situation Kosovo is independent

Now as much as I hope everyone sorts out their shit and compromises are made I see several "red flags" involving the Kurds:

1) [False Flag potential area]

Paint/Get a fighter plane(and adjust the transponder to only show up to certain groups or as a certain group or use a specific type of aircraft that is used in an arsenal) as a usual/intended suspect and have it bomb the US forces in the area.

The only way a false flag would happen in the Kurd area would be like that. Non-state actors could pull it off.

2) [Some Kurds are giving fighting experience and weapons to US/EU Leftist groups]

Not all Kurds are involved in this, but it has been going on if you've seen the pictures with Anti-fa/black block.

3) [Kurds could be used to create a WW3 or conflict situation]

Turkey and the Kurds hate each other. Syria and Russia is trying to stabilize Syria. US is working with the Kurds. Now once you consider the geopolitical mess all these connections are/have you can see how the Kurds could be used to make things go hot.

4) [What is stopping some of the Kurds from pulling an ISIS involving territory?]

It's already happened to some extent since the Kurds control large parts of Iraq and Syria.

Now most Kurds would be happy if some agreements/negotiations were made as Syria stabilizes and gets it's land back. The issue however comes down to the Kurds who don't want that and instead want their own land since they've been controlling it for so long.

5) [What's stopping the Kurds from "going rogue" like all the other US -backed groups?]

Considering the US's infamous track-record this has to be asked right from the get go and how is this possibly going to be used to mess with Turkey and/or prolong the Syria conflict.

Got some intel that the Trump Admin is going to very interested in knowing.

A part of the CIA and Pentagon are still funding/supplying ISIS, not just in the middle east but globally. They are also still helping the "moderates" in some area's.

ISIS is supposed to be getting wiped out and the "moderates" are not supposed to be funded anymore.

Someone is lying to the Trump Admin and even the "operators" along with the "agents" are starting to pick up on things not being what they were told.

Fresh arms shipments from US and European weapon makers are coming into Syria logistically and it's not coming from the US bases or even Israel. Someone is trying to keep the Syrian conflict going or attempting to eventually start it up again.

They assume he holds money over everything else because they themselves hold that belief, and cannot comprehend how someone in his position could hold something other than money close to his heart.

You put nukes on their doorstep and expect then NOT to develop something to deter you?

US sanctions on Canada when?

What's with the US and it's obsession with trying to exempt itself from MAD? Europe and Russia have already accepted their fate to the nuclear holocaust, and they've been better for it in the long run.

>Violence, that is to say physical force (for there is no moral force without the conception of states and law), is therefore the means; the compulsory submission of the enemy to our will is the ultimate object. In order to attain this object fully, the enemy must be disarmed

>he who uses force unsparingly, without reference to the quantity of bloodshed, must obtain a superiority if his adversary does not act likewise. By such means the former dictates the law to the latter, and both proceed to extremities, to which the only limitations are those imposed by the amount of counteracting force on each side.

Lol

not necessarily. there are plenty among us who value money as nothing more than a means to an end.

but it is also a useful excuse to delay escalation while also maintaining some (if minimal) effective pressure
