I live in Dublin. Our property prices are equally absurd as most US cities. You have to move 10-20 miles from the city to get something affordable for the regular person. The problem is the supply shortage and people's unrealistic expectations. You have 10s of thousands all vying for the same desirable locations. Of course prices are going through the roof.

i suppose we have different approaches, but my intention is to build a property that my family can live on for generations. i have plans for multiple buildings, expanding the walnut grove, and possibly adding a secured chicken area with plenty of field to roam.
i don't want my descendants to have to deal with the confusion, uncertainty, and lack of belonging that i did. they will of course learn the value of work and the value of the land, and the ideal of self-subsistence, but i do want them to have a place to call home.

The student loan issue is more serious IMHO. You can get a mortgage at 4%, and there are plenty of homes out there in the 200-300,000 in decent suburbs. Student loans are killing people though. You have a massive number of people with six digit debt at fucking 7-8% interest. Many of them are making minimum payments and not touching the principal. Know what happens when you have trillions in debt (and counting) most of which will not get paid off? You get a massive bubble. And forget about debt forgiveness, the gubmint would NEVER forgive that kind of debt.
