yeah this country used to rock dude. when i was growing up in the 80s and 90s it was the place to be. we were the envy of the world. every person who lived here was proud to say they were an american. they wore it like a badge of pride and honor.
people here were strong, exceptional, better than everyone else. we didn't rely on the government and we didn't trust the government. there were literally organized militias when i was a kid, a lot of them, who were paramiilitary units training to take out the federal government if they ever overstepped their constitutional authority.
nobody trusted law enforcement either. you had cases like ruby ridge and waco and many others in the 90s.
everyone was white, beautiful, friendly. you were strong and didn't others to survive, but everyone was pleasant to one another and you could just walk down the street and start talkign to whoever you wanted and "make friends" and it wasn't weird or anything.
the most popular guy in pop culture wasn't even on TV or in movies, he was on radio and he broadcast over night. his name was art bell and so many people listened to him (like 20 million listeners a night at his height, and that's in a nation with a smaller population than now). he talked about UFOs and government conspiracies and was a right-wing dude.
things that changed that culture were 1) oklahoma city bombing. this is what ultimately ended militia culture. 2) 9/11 - something amazing i can never explain happened overnight on that day. our culture changed totally. 3) obama's presidency. especially once he won his second term, everything suddenly seemed to be turned on its head.
