I don't know Oregon well enough to say, but up there in the mountain west is a little bit unusual in that the democrats have more sway than you might expect because they're not the same kind of insane democrats you get on the coasts.

Yes, can confirm. Boise is getting flooded with NorCals for a few reasons:
1) Selling their Cali home for a boatload of money. Property prices in Boise are on the rise but no where near Cali prices. Do the math
2) The area is prime for all outdoor activities and those activities are relatively close in location to where these people would reside.
3) The climate is somewhat similar to northern California... maybe a tad warmer in summer and a bit cooler in winter... you definitely get all the seasons in Idaho.
4) Taxes are much lower in Idaho. State retail tax is at 6%.. they still do have state income tax at around 2-3%

Iowa City has one of the best children's hospitals in the country.
The quad cities are really a perfect place to live.

The north east would be another alternative if you want to find a spot with small town type white people and no natural disasters. Anywhere say between the Great Lakes and into the Appalachian Mountains, give or take.
