The Internet Is Literally The Opposite Of What It Was Meant To Be

Has anybody else here noticed that in the past 10 years or so, the internet has done a complete 180 and become the opposite of what it was billed as (and at one point genuinely WAS)?

The internet was supposed to be like this free and open communications platform. The idea was everybody would be able to communicate openly with everybody without the usual barriers.

Now the internet is just as censored as everything used to be at any other period in history. It's gotten normalized to such a degree that I don't think most people even notice it. Like it's kind of taken for granted that 90% of web traffic is a few sites and that these sites can ban people for thoughtcrime. Most people don't bat an eyelash over it.

No it was never supposed to be like that you naive moron. Institutions decide about content. Fin

It was easy to foresee though.

why do you think it's inevitable that institutions decide about content?

You and many like you were lucky enough to be born in a window that you got to see about 10 years of what not being drip fed information is like and you assume everything was always that way. Welcome to the desert of the real.

Attached: 2255iq.jpg (738x683, 39K)

This isn't new faggot. They tried the "soft" route previously. This was filter bubbling. It turned this free and open net into gated communities or theme parks. Now the residents of the gated communities are getting rowdy.

youtube.com/watch?v=p6vM4dhI9I8

But the internet gave us Jow Forums. It is an ever more popular website because of its relative lack of censorship. You can argue and shitposting all you want on any topic on the chans. The more they ban, the more we grow.

Attached: welcometopol.png (908x448, 130K)

The reason this has happened is the internet generation is getting to the age where winners and losers are getting solidified.

All the hipster dreamers that were going to "make it" are now middle aged and instead of bowing out gracefully they want to poison the well.

They want complete destruction of the systems that allow the individual to win because they became losers.

The only people who arnt losers and are leftist are people using leftists as a way to prop themselves up as a celebrity.

It why women lean towards leftism because they are genetically, pre disposed to being losers. It's the same reason they don't innovate things.

I still believe in myself and that I can change the world as a individual so I naturally do not lean to the left.

Yep. It's the big tech firms, and Soros, and the NGO behind it. Thnk god for free sites like Jow Forums, bitchute, minds, Gab ecc..

Oh, btw, I suggest you strart using Pale moon instead of firefox. Soros got in bed with firefox.

The Internet is the same as it was 40 years ago. The only difference is that corrupt politics have interdepartmentally conglomerated into it

the internet was not meant for civilian use anyway. there is no reason for civilians to communicate in this manner.
there is no such thing as civilian intelligence, only military intelligence.
civilians detect, monitor, analyze and interpret information in the manner we see currently. with likes, subs, thumbs up or thumbs down.
because civilians do not know what to do with the influx of info.
civilians need to get knowledge personally from each other, from books, experience, or trial and error. the internet COULD be useful for civilians if we passed along this acquired knowledge and people accepted it, but humans do not accept knowledge or wisdom from strangers (which is why red pills do not work)
this is why the internet has become what we see now. people trying to fit square pegs in round holes. desperate to whistleblow, like a voice crying in the wilderness, but like i said we don't accept info from strangers no matter how true it is. so we instead censor, shut down, silence, etc etc.
the internet does nothing for free speech. military members do not have free speech especially those in intelligence fields.
civilians do have free speech which trumps the internet, this is why people are frustrated with censoring and stuff. the internet is a lesser form of free speech.

it's more like being put back in the matrix except you know it's fake and agents still harass you.

True social media companies basically get monopoly on a service, nobody challenges this monopoly, and then they act as moral arbiters for their entire global userbase. This is what is happening with google, with facebook and with twitter for instance. And since these companies and products are so relatively new. Legislation has not kept up with keeping them in line with regards to what they can and can´t do. It requires special legislation since they can´t just ban people in that usual way as a private company since they have essentially monopoly on that service. So either they have their monopoly forcefully destroyed. Or they submit to a more free speech oriented way of moderating oppinions and political debates on that service.
>The Internet is the same as it was 40 years ago.
Hmm.
>the internet was not meant for civilian use anyway. there is no reason for civilians to communicate in this manner.
eh.

internet has always been a honeypot for the elites
it just uncovered by now and when trump became president is the lit that started it

thank you the response

People were predicting this a decade ago, that a few conglomerates were moving to control the entire internet. They've mostly been proven right

>internet has always been a honeypot for the elites
Pretty sure it was meant for surveillance, which is why they got so pissed off with stellar wind and prism etc. being leaked. I mean google is owned by a holding company called ALPHABET (alphabet agencies). Come on. How google and facebook and microsoft and apple, cornered the entire smartphone device market, aswell as the location services. It makes it very clear that it´s for surveillance that can run in the background for spying on various people around the world by getting them to submit their data voluntarily, so that if there´s a guy that does something terrorist act or something. They can instantly look up his background and gps and everything. But people were not supposed to know that system was in the background. And ofcourse also so you have all kinds of nifty services and communication which is great that part.

You're wrong.

At one point and for many years there WERE no institutions on the internet. When companies decided to make their crappy little websites for the first time it was a big fuckin deal. "OMG Best Buy has a site now guys! Stop making shitty MrTAteMyBalls pics and come check it out!" Sure, there were always companies like AOL etc, but they were just portals, they didn't get into content until much later, and when they did their content was cancer from the beginning. The internet itself was free and open and anarchic content everywhere. Forums, usenet, irc, etc etc.

-Middleagedfag been fucking around with computers since the c64/bbs -> ibm/Citadel bbs days.

>People were predicting this a decade ago, that a few conglomerates were moving to control the entire internet. They've mostly been proven right
It has surprised people that the internet gets the same problems that monopolies and mergers have in the corporate world. But ofcourse it would get that. So they need to be restricted controlled and broken up just like corporate things in the real world. Otherwise they end up running the whole thing. Just think of smartphones. You can have apple phone or whatever phone with android operating system. So google or apple. Some choice huh? haha

Oh yeah i forgot microsoft also has one.

Also yeah for those who are not aware of it. Google started by blowing away hotmail out off the water. By offering free email with several gigabytes of storage. Basically everything hotmail had but better and free. Then it added more free services and then now it ended up being into everything including smartphones. This requires ofcourse massive capital to just basically destroy your competition by offering free and better services right off the bat. Should probably not surprise anyone to know that google was essentially started by NSA front companies. And is now held by a company called ALPHABET.

see what happened was jews
if you are old enough to remember the war website(white aryan resistance, had a white wolf as the icon) it was predicted there all those years ago, 98 id say.

I just miss having search engines that were actually usable and didn't just return the most basic bitch results and shopping opportunities. Searching for a phrase in quotes hasn't worked right in years.

Who said that, because yeah that would be pretty fucking stupid. You can be hardcore communist leninist etc. and nobody censors you period. You can say fuck white people nothing happens to you. The very notion of such a thing called hate speech. Is a call to censor. There is no such thing. It just means 'hate speech' is whatever they don´t agree with/like. That should be obvious to everyone.

Sure it isn't!
And the MSM always tells the truth! Like they did with wikileaks!!

A bunch Jews used the Internet to Jew normies out of their free speech (against them). Any other interpretation is naivety.

The internet did a complete 360 and walked right out of the room

No, it was never meant to be as they portraited it.
It was always a tool to push and enslave all of us, hook us to the media and connect with the virtual world by disconnecting from the real world and God. And they seem to win. Nearly everyone is dependant on his/her computer/internet/social media/smartphone.
They turned us into zombies.
They manipulate us.
They control us.
They lead us aways from God.
They are killing us.

>Searching for a phrase in quotes hasn't worked right in years.
i noticed this, too. i have also noticed that searches for non-bugman things seem to be very censored now. they realized that their search engines were too good at finding reliable information that faggot politics doesn't agree with

The intetnet was made to make it easyer to crontoll the thoughts of people, before people where less connected it was harder to sway everyones opinion now since the whole world gathers on one platform (((they))) can controll everything we see or dont see

That's what happens when the internet slowly got centralized and people have tied their real identities to it.

Attached: wizard.png (852x944, 70K)

>The internet was supposed to be like this free and open communications platform. The idea was everybody would be able to communicate openly with everybody without the usual barriers.

It still is.

Facebook, YouTube, Google and Apple aren't "the internet". HTTP, IRC, NNTP, XMPP, SFTP, SSH, POP, IMAP, are the internet.

Stop using these. My own private IRC, email and music streaming servers are still as free, open, secure and anonymous as they've ever been.

This is all exactly as expected. Red chair elephant

I used to use the internet to escape society. Now society came to the internet and ruined it. Where do I go next?

yeah cause monopolies took it over and destroyed it

>The internet was supposed to be like this free and open communications platform. The idea was everybody would be able to communicate openly with everybody without the usual barriers.
Over-centralization is the big problem here

The internet will always be free. Platforms are free to regulate themselves as they see fit -- the userbase of the internet will in turn "regulate" them by flocking to other platforms should they become too restrictive. In countries with state-mandated censorship, users find creative ways around the censors and those methods spread like wildfire because of the nature of the internet. It's a self-replicating tool for the dissemination of information good and bad, and no government or company can stop it as hard as they try.

>We’ve centralized all of our data to a guy called Mark Zuckerberg, who’s basically the biggest dictator in the world as he wasn’t elected by anyone.

Also, it seems to have had the effect where people with certain views move into 'bubbles' online. Take for example youtube and their algorithms, if you search for videos with certain viewpoints, they will shove similar videos down your throat.

It has the effect of people being seperated into seperate worlds online, either right or left.

Attached: 1480540420690.jpg (562x527, 61K)

the internet is a technology
a tool
a prototype
when internet was regulated
we got torrents
warez
and p2p napster shits
then everything moved to dark web tor onion
now people are doing their own diy internet meshes, seedboxes, physical info dumps
blockchain.

the need to communicate and share
everything
with everyone
will not go away
and it is becuase of the internet
scrpit kiddies and hackers

the internet is an abstract land with infinite space
when regulations seek to put a stop to the 'wild west' internet, it just moves further out claiming stakes in an infinite abyss.

>The intetnet was made to make it easyer to crontoll the thoughts of people, before people where less connected it was harder to sway everyones opinion now since the whole world gathers on one platform (((they))) can controll everything we see or dont see
Nah its actually the other way around. In the past there were only very few media outlets. So everybody believed whatever it was they said. And those that didn´t read/watch them had to ask others what they said, and had to rely on those people to tell them what is going on. With the internet you had information OVERFLOW for the first time in human history, people have so much information they can spend their entire day reading/watching news from all over the world. And they can easily look into things for themselves. So it makes sense that they want to centralize it like they did with american msm. TO where you have a lot of options, but they say the same fucking thing because it´s the same 5-10 guys or whatever who fucking owns the companies. vid related. youtube.com/watch?v=_fHfgU8oMSo And this ofcourse is bad for the internet. I´ve said that there should be many alternatives for facebook and other things for years. Because people act as if it´s some kind of communal thing that humanity has built together. No it´s a fucking private company that knows all your most intimate details that you post on your fucking facebook account you dumb normie! And that has serious implications with regards to what they decide to do with it, and if they decide they don´t like you or whatever you have to say. Then if most people in the world are on that service, and if you get excluded. This can potentially destroy your business outreach and other things.

lmao its the same thing with capitalism and america.

it was "supposed" to be a free and open society where the common man could be anything but now coorperations control everything and make sure to exploit citizens for every cent they can and make sure competition dies.

its funny how literally every system shows that socialism is what is needed to make sure everyone has an equal voice.

>in the last 10 years, almost every up-and-coming tech company or website has been bought by the big five: Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook.
this. This is what i mean, they are trying to centralize it like they have done with the shitty media in america. This ofcourse ruins what is actually going on and just turns the entire internet into a propaganda machine instead. Which is the opposite of what it was. Where there were as many options and perspectives as you wanted.

>its funny how literally every system shows that socialism is what is needed to make sure everyone has an equal voice.
we unironically need anarchism. What is the ideal internet (and the internet of the past) if not anarchism?

What is Jow Forums if not anarchist?

Attached: 1400933138570.jpg (816x816, 125K)

>instead of breaking up monopolies pragmatically and that sort of normal thing. No let´s become socialist/communists and massmurder our own people and fuck over our entire society with this flawed ideology.
Always this one idiot. Ofcourse society needs plutocratic safeguards. But it certainly also needs to defend itself from psycho's such as yourself.

It was always about free speech regardless of the content of speech
On the internet everyone should be allowed to spit their bile and everyone should be allowed to judge them for it

The internet has changed a lot

I’m happy I found Jow Forums. I thought I was alone and crazy. Now I know I’m just crazy

>Don't ever tell anyone your real name on the internet - everyone in 1998
>tell everyone your real name on every major site and upload personal information and photos - everyone in 2018
How did this happen lads?

>What is Jow Forums if not anarchist?
Not anarchist. And it is about free speech or ability to say what you want. But you can´t run a stable society on anarchy so it´s complete nonsense. To you differences in oppinions is anarchy. That´s how stupid you anarchists are. the internet was essentially like the open frontier where everyone was interested in new possibilities, and now it is being colonized/streamlined and need to be careful that you still have different options to make sure that a few people don´t censor it on behalf of their own political bias. And legislation on this matter is massively behind on how fast this technology and innovation has developed.

I always was certain it would happen at some point, I just didn't think it would happen with so many people so accepting of it and in many cases in full support of the censorship. THAT was what was surprising. I always imagined it would be like some big fight of the people vs the corporations and gov't and that the government would just pull like a China-type attitude of "fuck you" and censor us anyway. Instead we got a bunch of morons openly embracing censorship, welcoming it, even begging for it. That, I did not see coming. It's really surprising how much the American people have changed over the course of the last 30 years. 38 year old boomer here. *sip*

Attached: 1533765722681.gif (500x500, 1.94M)

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Google likely does this for advertising (look at the ads you get) so they can cornhole people into easily marketed archetypes. The political division is probably just a byproduct of their algorithms.

> a few people don´t censor it on behalf of their own political bias
Yes and what is that? A hierarchy online. Anarchism is fundamentally against hierarchy where possible. I'm not even talking about the real world right now, jus the internet.

>Don't ever tell anyone your real name on the internet - everyone in 1998
>tell everyone your real name on every major site and upload personal information and >photos - everyone in 2018
>How did this happen lads?
Pretty obvious. It´s because before it was a bit more nerdy people, maybe doing things they weren´t always supposed to and fooling about. and now the normie army has arrived with their family photos and everything and it has become integrated for business etc. Remember myspace? That´s when it started.

Redditors actually believe that Reddit has a right wing bias

It was always the plan but people didn't take it seriously when the facts were right in front of their faces.

The problem with the internet is all these billionaire companies and their bullshit services. “It’s their company, they can do what they like” is a dangerous concept with the potential to limit free speech and basic human rights; which we’re starting to see now.

I’m in my mid-20s but I was still lucky enough to catch the tail end of the “wild west” internet: simple and light pages, function over form and above all free. I used to talk to people all over the world via Yahoo chatrooms, play games with them and chat over ICQ. It was so nice and friendly, I still speak to many of them today. It was so civil and kind. I really miss when Yahoo and Google were legendary, untouchable. How good Google’s search and reverse image search was, and all the porn vids on Yahoo. As a teen it was godlike. The closest thing to an “evil” company we had was Microsoft with their anti-trust shit and that pales in comparison to the shit going on now. I wish I got to see more of it, it disappeared so fast.

Web 2.0 creeped up on everyone and shit just changed. All these blue hairs started ramming their opinions down everyone’s throat. Everything was ‘problematic.’ Everyone’s a blogger and now the blogs are “news.” Being white is a crime now, a virus that needs to be genocided. There’s no love for each other. Only coldness. No cooperation. No discussion. No expression. No freedom. All of that was snuffed out long ago. It’s as if the YouTube comments section has been spread out through the entire web. It kind of all started around the time of smartphones but I don't know if they're necessarily the problem; it's the people making and using them.

I don’t know what’s going to happen going forward, but it doesn’t look bright. I wish I could go back to those happier days but I don't think they'll be anything like that again. At least I got to experience it at all.

>The internet was supposed to be like this free and open communications platform. The idea was everybody would be able to communicate openly with everybody without the usual barriers.
It is exactly this
That's why the jews use it to subvert humanity.
There is no kike-filter that bans jews from the internet

>Yes and what is that? A hierarchy online. Anarchism is fundamentally against hierarchy where possible.
I know this is why anarchism is ridiculous. Because it has the childish notion that hierachies are bad. Eventhough they are naturally occuring through merit and are good for teams and teamwork and all that. What is bad is artificial hierarchies where people on the top don´t do good to the people below, but just use their power for their own selfish things, which is why too much centralized control is not very good. Which is why people sometimes prefer smaller government. So i disagree the internet was anarchy, it was more like open territory, and various groups could do various things. And now the big colonizers come in the form of the big conglomerates.

It happened to radio as well.

2007 was the worst

Having lived through those days, it is fascinating to watch how it is changing in real time and how it is so successfully being used to alter society. And how quickly all of this is happening.

i feel really lost in the shuffle here. i don't know what to do or what to make of it.

Its become monopolized, i remember back in like 2006 i use to use like 30 different sites. Because every site had an individual use for me, if i wanted to talk about a show i'd use a certain forum, if i wanted to watch specific content, i'd use the site that hosted that content.

Now everything is hosted and controled on a handful of site, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook and they can decide what is allowed and what isnt.

What we need is the return of small independant sites

Nice writeup.

Attached: 1533388661877.gif (320x240, 1.99M)

>What we need is the return of small independant sites
The problem is getting the average person to care about using smaller sites.

Sounds like an interesting theory, but I think the political divisions, in this country at least, are based on inner-city which has become exponentially leftist and non-white and the rest of the country which is mostly right wing and white. The former controls the tech, the MSM influence, Hollywood, the money, the institutions, the power, the latter has nothing but the numbers/population. The difference is that the first black president didn't "mend" racial differences in the country, they were only enflamed. I think this painted a huge sign for white America that no matter how much you give they will only demand more and that racial issues simply can not be resolved. The left went into full overdrive also, from 20mph to 200mph in one presidency. Trump was the back-swing to extreme leftist lunacy.

This is exactly why every country, every regime, every globalist fights SO goddamn hard to shut down even the smallest mention of turning internet use into a public service and not private monopoly.
If (((they))) had to allow fair use and voice online, it would not go well for any of (((their))) narratives because truth is like a virus.

The sooner the better, the more you wait the more all these things become integrated which makes it a nightmare to compete with any of it. These growing monopolies on the web should have been broken up A LONG TIME AGO. And literally forced far more alternatives.
>This is exactly why every country, every regime, every globalist fights SO goddamn hard to shut down even the smallest mention of turning internet use into a public service and not private monopoly.
So much this!

That´s a nice way of putting it. It was wild wild west, and everybody having a good time and could do what they wanted to. And then comes these big terraformers/conglomerates and transform it into normie nation 2.0

We are not far away from getting an actual internet ID, and then you can kiss anonymity and talking about delicate subjects without being censored goodbye.

Just move to TOR?

Agree with what your saying, i guess i am more or less thinking its easy to spread a story or push a nartive to the masses now due to everyone being on one platform. The whole google and faceboom shit is pretty wild, i grew up in the days where ypu didnt post any info on the net, now your a weirdo if you dont have your life story on the net.

Thats the issue, i really miss it though. I use to use forums were like 100 people used them, you'd know everyone and you could talk about the specific thing you wanted to because the site was specifically for that one topic

Its so much better that way

>We need everyone to wake up before this happens and expel the Jew and its evil from our lands
You say Jews but literally every state will try to limit the internet, Turkey was blocking social media, look at the Arab spring, look at China. You are oversimplifying things. Getting rid of the 'Jews' won't do shit, its a problem inherent to states

Of course the difference is that back then companies like Twitter and Facebook were celebrating the idea that people were using their sites to achieve real political change. They presented themselves as a force of good, committed to bringing freedom of speech to even the most oppressed people. Of course much like other leftists once they realized the power of their influence they started to use it not just to present opinions but to control them to enact the kind of changes they wanted to see in the world.

The internet is still free and uncensored (except for places like China). On the other hand, private websites such as kikebook or twitter are free to push whatever political agenda they want. If you don't like it, don't use them, and make your own website.

>Stop using these. My own private IRC, email and music streaming servers are still as free, open, secure and anonymous as they've ever been.
