The reason they'll keep a portion of humanity alive as slaves is that they either aren't able to give robots sentience and true intelligence on their own, so human slaves are a backup plan, or they expect that perhaps one day they might malfunction and run out of them in which case humans would still be their backup plan.
They could birth new humans in a lab, but again without slaves running the human farm they risk the possibility of an major existential dilemma.
So basically, the oligarchs are really stupid and unable to do this on their own, so they need the "dumb" masses to make this happen.
What this tells you is that YOU actually have the power to take these monsters down, they are just above you because for hundreds (or thousands) they have been slowly building up their power financially and politically.
