World's Fair buildings are usually cheaply and quickly thrown up and as such they lack permanence. Made of plaster and wood.
Typically after the Fair the buildings simply deteriorate. Occasionally a movement will force the city to rebuild it permanently, also occasionally buildings are built properly.
In the case of the statue, it was built to last.
