BC has a population and GDP almost the same (a few thousand higher for each actually) as New Zealand which is a fully fledged independent country plus unlike New Zealand which faces the challenge of being an island BC shares a land border with the largest economy on earth. We don't have an independence vote because we haven't made one. What we need to do is create awareness of this. Talk to other British Columbians on here about it talk to people in real life who you think may be open to it etc. the climate is just about right for an independence movement

I think western Canada would only work if it was a decentralized confederacy else it would just become small canada 2.0 with one region controlling all others. For one provinces should have control over immigration and have the ability to make some trade deals rather than relying on the federal government. Really I think western canada should be similar to the original intention of the CIS close cooperation but no super central federal government

Regardless of a western Canada republic I believe that treaties should be signed immediately with Alberta regarding trade and sea access should they leave canada ever so as to make Alberta a friend/trading partner and possible ally rather than an enemy. Now some pros and cons

Pros: BC can make it's own decisions on trade and immigration BCers no longer send more money to the Feds than we receive in services BC gets full control of its offshore resources and seaports and full ability to make it's own international relations and the ability to control and patrol all of its own borders. Trade agreements could be a massive boom for our economy as we can finally make our own deals that best help our economy specifically. Also we will end up making our own constitution and could attempt a form of government and give ourselves rights that we don't have under canada (for example right to bear arms could be up for debate also maybe we could be a republic just as an example) basically a clean slate more or less for crafting a new government constitution everything. Ultimately we are free to make our own decisions without often ill informed easterners making them for us

Cons: BC will have spend time to establish new treaties diplomatic ties and trade relations with other countries countries may not recognize BC at least immediately, possible problems with Canada if they don't fully agree to separation, deciding who to give new BC citizenship to Could be complicated because many people from outside BC are here as workers students etc and many people born in BC live outside and may want to return. Should we let people born here return and become citizens etc. slightly increased cost in border patrol because the Alberta BC border is now a full fledged international border. Some high initial cost to equip the new BC military because it is unlikely the Feds will let us have any Canada forces equipment however it's a slight pro because if we build lots of the equipment here it could be a boom to industries here for example shipbuilding and maintainable jobs will be created for the new BC navy. Also the pro of controlling all our own destiny could be a con too if we somehow screw everything up in terms of government

Anyway these are just a few I could think of on the top of my head. A true list of both would likely require some long study maybe debates etc involving talking with people with some insider government experience but i personally think we stand a better chance forging our own destiny rather than being tied to the increasingly sinking ship of canada that we have nearly no influence over

Also I think that BC would do well to accept the Yukon as something like a semi autonomous state or protectorate etc should they want to leave canada. They're too small to survive on their own already have many ties to BC in terms of business etc and we could have access to the arctic from them and some economic development there in exchange for their defense and providing them with access to the pacific. I've talked to some separatists from the Yukon and they've said themselves that any Yukon separation would have to involve BC 80,000 people with no warm water port couldn't be fully independent not yet

It's a pretty complex issue. It would have to be planned out so well before it even is to happen.

It would really be nice to be away from the strangle hold of the feds that dont care about us though.
