its a really ugly and barren place if you ignore all the really beautiful scenic locations. Yes the whole area including eastern washington/eastern oregon/southern Idaho has a lot of barren "steppe" flatlands and cold weather deserts and a random highway shot through some grazing land is boring to look at in picture, driving through it yourself, its so peaceful and surreal, so few people, wide open spaces. Id kill for a plot of land in eastern washington with a view of the cascades in the background, but theres literally nothing out there.
