The peoples of ex Yugoslavia are far too different to be able to coexist as a single entity. Linguistically, we have 3-4 languages which although similar, aren't mutually comprehensible, including the Albanian minorities, and not including all other minorities and variations. The Latin and Cyrillic alphabets. Orthodox, Catholic, and Islamic religions. A lot of bad blood due to past wars, disputes, and events, and so on. The pros and cons? Well, I've just listed the major cons, not including the cultural differences and development/gdp situation of each country. The pros would've been a larger land mass, population, military, and possibly economy, although in the current situation it would be a complete nightmare to even attempt to compete against the EU. And although things aren't better now than they were then, it's not that big of a difference, really. Just a different system. Still the same shit. Still wage slaving, being squeezed like lemons and discarded when old and withered. In the end we'd just be a bigger country with many more problems and less solutions and at the mercy of the EU. Individually we're still subservient to the EU, but with less shit to deal with. In the end the simplest things such as language, core values and beliefs are what sets us so far apart. Do you think that you'd ever be able to become the US if every state spoke a different language and had a different culture? You probably know the anti EU sentiment that goes around here. Same shit with Yugoslavia. It was an alliance of convenience in turbulent times, that is all.

Yugoslavia was used to relay information and technology between the USA and USSR. They were run by the same people at the top. We were never free. When they decided to destroy the soviets they also pulled the plug on Yugoslavia's loans and the economy crashed.

I know we won't enter the EU, but people will leave regardless.
As Western Europe's population continues to decline they'll start accepting workers from a broader range of countries that they now consider undesirable. There are already agencies that allow you to make a contract with them and work outside Serbia in countries like Czechia, Germany, Slovakia, Sweden, etc. Some countries offer a path to citizenship this way.
There are posters in my cities on public transport stops "Medical nurses wanted in Germany".

I talked with a cousin today who worked his ass off in the same company for about 25 years and they still treat him like trash. He has Slovenian citizenship aside from Serbian because that's where he was born in ex-YU. He said if things don't change in a year or two, he's out. The working conditions are really fucking abysmal. There's a Korean company here that is actually doing business in a way that is unconstitutional. But no one cares, mate. Bow your head down and work. Or don't and get fired.
