Attorneys for Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman who is on trial for financial crimes in federal district court Alexandria, Virginia, will not call additional witnesses to present a defense.
“The defense rests,” Manafort’s lead attorney Kevin Downing said in court on Tuesday.
Government prosecutors from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office rested their case on Monday, so without a defense, the jury is expected to begin deliberations following closing arguments.
Legal experts told ABC News this strategy is common but risky.
“This is very common after prosecution rests to file a motion saying they didn’t meet the burden beyond a reasonable doubt,” said former homeland security official and ABC New contributor John Cohen. “Typically, this doesn’t work.”

Right now the jury has seen the judge belittle and rattle the prosecution team into tears, while the defense has broken down each "reliable" witness and evidence as circumstantial and untrustworthy in cross. It all depends on the closing arguments, where the prosecutors will undoubtedly reach beyond the evidence and scope of the trial, while the defense will just point out how ridiculous the proceedings are.

Most Cuban-Americans fled or are descendants of those who fled Castro when the country became socialist. Given they have witnessed the horrors of socialism through Castro and Guevara, they vote conservative because they do not want their new country to fall to the same fate as their home country. Same thing goes with the Vietnamese, who I believe are the only race of East Asians who are conservative in this country.
I once had a Cuban repair my refrigerator one night, and we talked about his country and he kept saying how proud he was to be in a free country and that he sees the left trying to go down the same path that Cuba did. The Cubans are alright people, at least the ones who are already here.
You may not like Scott because he's a moderate who cucked on gun control, but he was the perfect candidate to run at this time. Very good latino support which will likely win him his seat.
