There are actually people who spend 4-5 days a week here and actually make decent money. They are basically addicted, like gambling. I am sure there are so many days where they find nothing in the hot sun, but they keep going back.

Rice farming (Arkansas produces almost half the national domestic total) mostly in the east and south parts of the state. Outdoorsman stuff like hunting and fishing at various hydroelectric dam lakes and streams. A lot of cattle, chicken, and pig farming. There's Fayetteville, where the state university is at, and there's the nigger mound at the capital. There's Wal-Mart, and Riceland, and actually a few surprisingly good hospitals. A lot of methheads and general white trash. Overall pretty poor but obviously there are wealthy areas.
There are a lot of tiny, spread out towns all connected by a network of winding two lane roads. Some towns are just a gas station and a few homes. It's very rural, and mostly descendants of Germans or Scottish that immigrated in the 19th century and have their wealth in land and livestock. Towns are anywhere from 30 people or less up to medium-sized towns of 2000-20000, and the "large" towns and cities are more like 50000-150000 each.

One blues singer I know about wrote a song about how many fat women there are in his town in Arkansas. So that's going on there if you're interested.

No, my grandparents live in Southern Missouri though and my grandpa was big into fly fishing, and he used to take me down there all the time to Lake Greeson, so we ended up going diamond hunting. Never found anything personally but, some of the people are damn serious about it.

I've honestly considered it. I used to be in a touring band and we mostly toured the South. I was pretty taken in by the beauty of the state and the humility and warmth of the people in Little Rock (only city we played in).

that's the impression I get. One of the times I was in Little Rock there was a black guy wearing a leather jacket all decked out with Iron Maiden stuff.
Granted, that was Little Rock, but I got the impression that race relations are pretty decent there compared to a lot of other places in the South.
