They also gave the US a reason to enter WW2 and didn't invade the Soviet Union along with the Germans, Italians and Hungarians.

Except for some noteworthy buildings, Japanese will just tear a building down and put up something better. For the most part, buildings are considered expendable. That's why you can go to a place like Nagasaki and it looks like nothing ever happened there.
