hey everyone. I'm a palestinian catholic (we exist mostly as diaspora) living in the US. from a young age I've been taught by my family to be wary of Islam and muslims in general. that most of them are decent people, but they will be caught up in politics and will have no issue sidelining and abusing non-muslim minorities for their own gain. despite being palestinian and speaking palestinian-arabic at home, I never was taught about arab history in any good way. the islamic conquerors are seen as heroic ancestors by muslim arabs, but my family sees them as foreign invaders that tried to destroy christianity in the levant and egypt.
my father always stresses that
> "we're canaanite/israelite, not arab. we dont come from the arabian peninsula and you're not muslim, user"
which some lebanese will find very similar to the "we're phoenician lebanese, not arab" argument, or the "we're coptic pharoahs, not arab" argument in egypt. so I've never really seen myself as arab or see any of their heroes as mine.
but who am I to support? fellow christians who 90% of which are non-arab, and a lot of which despise arabs?
or do I put aside my religious practices and side with my fellow middle easterners, despite their persecution of my people?
or should I admire European Christendom, but side first and foremost with fellow ME christians? I feel like I have to pick one or the other here. if there was another crusade between christianity and islam, I would have to either side with the crusaders or my "fellow arabs".
i mean there are already wars going on in africa where christians and slaughtering muslims and vice versa.
anyway please help Jow Forums. you can bring up Israel if you like but I can be anti-israel and anti-muslim at the same time. israel isn't christian
