I haven't looked into it too deeply but it is generally accepted that the money that the Witizan Visigoths used to finance the recruitment of ibn Ziyyad's mercenaries to assist them in their coup against King Roderic came from Jewish sources.
Why they did this is unclear. I've read that, while Arianism at this time had virtually ceased to exist among the Goths, the Rodrigans were far firmer in their Catholicism than the Witizans.
