china moves ahead really quickly, you'd be surprised. esp in medical and semiconductors/matls as well as software sector the chinks are well ahead though japs are content to take automotive/robotics lead still. japs take more care in developing stability and it works better for their country and people, china pushes the radical aspect easily as they have more natural resources and manpower so it works better in their conditions. chinks pay more on their environment but they have more to spare than japs.

the united states government put all these giant military bases across japan. most of these have been torn down . the remaining ones re-purposed after a thorough scan of the concrete slabs for thermo nuclear devices meant to blow the bases up that america had placed there. this was on the news in the early 90s in america.

Imo it's very efficient and smart to steal every western tech they can get a hold off, why waste all the resources when we can just pay for it all.
