The North was the region with the ability to buy off service, hence the New York Draft Riots. The South had almost, with the exception of about 0.1% of the rich population, being drafted to the military. And they did not grumble in even comparable numbers to the North, where less than 1/3 of the eligible population grumbled about the war.
The South was, objectively, far more invested in the war than the North was. This is an objective fact that cannot be disputed.

because the fundamental lie of America is that the founding fathers were geniuses beyond their age when they were actually just decently educated upperclassmen who didn't want to follow the King's rules anymore. Had the crown allowed us representation in parliament and settlement across the Appalachians, I have no doubt we would've still been part of the commonwealth today. Hell, the 2nd British Empire may have never actually taken off and the original Empire in North America could've made it all the way down to Central America and maybe even pushed into South America.

They followed the "Articles of Confederation" that was actually the original constitution drafted. However our founding fathers quickly realized thatit was not a good way to get free from the Brits.

The southern slave owners had to keep the economy going and the non-slave owners (see the majority) were not about to fight a war to maintain the right to keep slaves they didn’t have to begin with. The confederacy had already agreed to an economic plan with Britain and France which included an agreement to abolish slavery within five years following the end of hostilities in America. The real debate was over gradual emancipation which the south supported and total abolition which the north was reluctant to go for until they realized it would collapse the southern economy
Lincoln cared about keeping the Union together at all costs. He was pretty open about not liking slavery but didn't care to fight a war to free slaves. It was only after a few years of the Civil War did he emancipate the slaves to try to destabilize the south.
