Sometimes special interest groups (be they political or simply companies out for "grass-roots" advertisement) will spend thousands of dollars to buy these old accounts to establish a veneer of veracity. How does this stuff work here? Well; pretty much not at all. But that doesn't mean that there can't be any attacks here. There are three main vectors that are used to attack: >Spamming (Simply posting gibberish or things that take up lots of room; it's easily spotted) >Sliding (Making cheap threads that get a lot of replies; usually marked by (((1 Post by this ID))) for the OP) >Shilling (Usually requiring actual people to spam disingenuous arguments, attack an idea and make it seem like no one agrees on it; basically internet Pilpul)

Usually you can very quickly identify a "slide thread" by the fact that it says "1 Post by this ID" when you hover over the OP's (the dude that made the thread) ID (the colorful thing next to the flag). It is amazing how many slide/low effort threads there are at any given time. Anybody waving this off as superficial dialogue and (((fellow anons))) simply abandoning threads is a moron to be quite honest with you.

A year or so ago some guy made a mozilla plugin for Jow Forums that would hide threads with "One Post by this ID" for OP after a certain margin of replies. (20 replies, 30, etc). Unfortunately it stopped working after the site was updated awhile back. No idea if anyone good with coding could make something up quickly, but it would help a bunch.
Also, 2nd thing idk if anyone else notices but threads are seemingly "reposted" over and over again but with identical replies sometimes weeks old. These aren't shill replies, they are genuine responses taken from the old threads and reposted as though to simulate activity. Sort of weird. I'm not really into that conspiracy crap and go on here for shits and giggles, but it's still odd that people are actively manipulating this board.

The only thing is for me when I see a thread redirect I tend to ignore it since it's usually along the lines of "SLIDE THREAD GO HERE" which sometimes makes me think that the redirect is the slide thread. Also I was around for the Duckroll phase of /b/ so it's just instinct to ignore them.
Something that does work for other boards but is unfortunately not appropriate for Jow Forums is a minimum posting to start a thread. /s/ has a 6 post minimum and has almost zero bots that don't get banned immediately. For Jow Forums this is difficult since not every thread has multiple images to go with it. I wonder why there isn't a "threads must have more than one post by OP" rule since it could cut down on server bandwidth.
