Upvote if you disagree, downvote if you don't, and no anonymity involved going from comment to comment, so people who actually do comment tend to cater to what they think the community will accept (and upvote), which tends to follow a liberal train of thought, leads to politics being injected into every facet of the site, and the same sort of "random lol" replies with semi-relevant movie quotes or shows that people in the community tend to like. It leads to an incredible predictable comment thread within every post. There are also a lot of what in my mind are just desperate grasps for attention and praise a la "I survived duhpression" on completely irrelevant sections, "I learned the G chord" on guitar subs, "I did a pushup and lost 2 lbs but I still weigh 450" on fitness subs. This site isn't much different. They are both echochambers, this one being full of blatant contrarians. Even in most boards on this site it's the same shit over and over. /lit/ with Infinite Jest, /tv/ with nuwars, etc.

Mostly jealousy. It's obvious that the average commenter on reddit is of a much higher IQ than the average poster on Jow Forums. Most of Jow Forums has posted on reddit at one time or another, and if they posted some right wing nazi garbage or some conspiracy theory about pizza or jews, they were most likely completely annihilated by someone with a higher IQ who has actually read books and doesn't get their news from Alex Jones. This interaction leaves the nazi salty, especially because of the voting system whereby the nazi gets to see that everyone thinks the nazi is a moron and everyone agrees with the normal person. It can be a real devastating experience when the nazi ventures out its hugbox. The nazi rarely if ever uses this experience to change. Instead, the nazi experiences shame, denial, and eventually anger which he brings with him back to Jow Forums and joins the other nazis who had the same experience and they hate on reddit together, never to leave their hugbox again.

Anything political there is cancer, the system of upvoting and downvoting discourages people from expressing unpopular opinions. On the upside, it's good for discussion of niche hobbies, pretty much anything you are interested in has a subreddit where you can ask questions and find interesting stuff. Jow Forums is more honest and open when it comes to political topics, but it's dominated by memes and shitposting, and the topics of discussion are kind of repetitive

Long answer: reddit and Jow Forums have fundamentally different design philosophies that attract vastly different userbases. I use reddit occasionally because it basically killed every message board and became the place that you have to go to if you want information on something more specific than just "video games" or "politics" or "fitness". Reddit's design is based on groupthink and conformity. On any given subreddit goodthink gets you more visibility while badthink means what you said will never be seen by more than the 50 people who downvoted you. At worst, you get banned for wrongthink by the (usually) leftist subreddit moderators. This system is great when you want some 9gag meme site. If your subreddit is puppies, then obviously the best puppy pictures will rise to the top, but the system fails when it comes to opinion because it just means the majority creates and enforces an echochamber. Ironically, this system is also the undoing of the user-enforced content curation, as tired "inside jokes" you've heard a million times before rise to the top of the page, ensuring that you'll see them a billion more times in the future from internet narcissists who want to farm imaginary internet points.

Almost the exact opposite is true of Jow Forums and Jow Forums in general. The 30 year old boomer meme has a few months left at most. It's funny and then it's not.
