While most of the tax cut applies to the rich, some of it was also given to workers. IIRC the current projections were for it to be a cut early on that phases into a small tax hike later.
If you don't understand resource competition, the labour market, and the national debt, it's easy to see 'yep, more money in my bank account, what's not to like'? They don't see the fact that a tax cut that mostly benefits the rich increases their relative buying power, which affects you whenever you buy something in a market they also participate in. Normies often don't quite make the connection between the fact that houses are way too expensive and the fact that a RICH normies think they're a sort of granite-countertopped buttcoin.
A lot of normies also haven't made the connection between 'if the top tax rate is high people will have no reason to work harder' and the fact that well-paying jobs that aren't 80 hours a week exist in part BECAUSE highly skilled people aren't willing to bust their ass too hard if the taxes are too high
Also, a lot of Americans legitimately haven't made the connection between the tax cut and the fact that the government is trying to raid their social security funds to pay for it.
